How can we "continue to walk in Him" in daily life? Just as You Received Christ—Keep Moving “Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him.” (Colossians 2:6) - Receiving Christ was a decisive moment; walking in Him is the lifelong response. - “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you…apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5) - The same faith that saved you supplies strength for each step. Rooted, Built Up, Established, Overflowing “Rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:7) What these four pictures invite us to practice: - Rooted: Sink your spiritual roots deep into Scripture daily (Psalm 1:2-3). - Built up: Pursue growth through teaching, fellowship, and obedient action (Ephesians 4:15-16). - Established: Hold fast to sound doctrine; test everything by the Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). - Overflowing: Let gratitude flavor every conversation (Colossians 3:17). Stay Anchored in the Word - Schedule unhurried reading; let the text set the agenda. - Memorize key passages to recall in temptation (Psalm 119:11). - Meditate until truth moves from the page to your patterns of thought. Cultivate Continual Prayer - “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) - Turn anxieties into petitions with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7). - Keep short accounts—confess quickly, receive cleansing (1 John 1:9). Walk by the Spirit, Not the Flesh - “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16) - Start the day surrendering your will (Romans 12:1). - Listen for His promptings; obey at once, even in small matters. - Expect the Spirit’s fruit to ripen in character and conduct (Galatians 5:22-23). Remain in Christ-Centered Community - “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together.” (Hebrews 10:24-25) - Seek relationships that encourage holiness, not compromise. - Invite accountability; share victories and vulnerabilities. - Serve with your gifts—walking in Him is a team endeavor. Guard Your Mind from Deception “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception.” (Colossians 2:8) - Measure every idea by scriptural truth. - Beware of worldviews that diminish Christ’s sufficiency or authority. - Keep the gospel central; refuse any “Jesus-plus” formulas. Practice Obedient Love “Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.” (1 John 2:6) - Love is verified in action—meet practical needs (James 2:15-17). - Forgive as you have been forgiven (Ephesians 4:32). - Speak truth seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:6). Overflow with Thankfulness Every Day “Give thanks in every circumstance; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18) - Start and end the day naming specific gifts from God. - Let gratitude refocus your perspective when trials come. - Share testimonies of God’s faithfulness; thanksgiving is contagious. A Simple Daily Pattern - Word: Read, meditate, note one clear takeaway. - Prayer: Respond to God about what He just said. - Obedience: Act on the takeaway before day’s end. - Fellowship: Encourage or serve at least one believer. - Gratitude: Record a fresh reason to thank Him. Keep repeating the cycle. Each ordinary step, taken in dependence on Christ, strings together into a lifetime that faithfully “continues to walk in Him.” |
