How to deepen ties with the Word of life?
What steps can you take to deepen your relationship with the "Word of life"?

Encounter the Word of Life

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.” (1 John 1:1)

The “Word of life” is both the eternal Son of God and the written testimony that reveals Him. Because Scripture is true in every detail, drawing near to Jesus means drawing near to His Word.

Step 1: Approach Scripture with Awe

• Remind yourself daily: “All Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

• Expect to encounter the living Christ, not just information (Hebrews 4:12).

Step 2: Develop a Daily Reading Rhythm

• Set a consistent time and place—just as Israel gathered manna every morning (Exodus 16:4–5).

• Read whole books, not only isolated verses, to grasp context.

Step 3: Slow Down to Meditate

• “His delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:2).

• Reread a short passage; picture the scene, note repeated words, ask what the text reveals about Christ.

Step 4: Commit Verses to Memory

• “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).

• Start with 1 John 1:1–4; recite aloud during daily tasks.

Step 5: Put Truth into Practice Quickly

• “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22).

• After each reading, write one concrete action you will take within 24 hours.

Step 6: Seek Fellowship Around the Word

• “So that you also may have fellowship with us” (1 John 1:3).

• Join a small group that centers on Scripture; discuss insights, encourage obedience.

Step 7: Depend on the Spirit’s Illumination

• “The Advocate… will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you” (John 14:26).

• Before studying, ask the Spirit to open your eyes; after studying, rely on Him to empower obedience.

Step 8: Guard a Pure Heart

• “If we walk in the light as He is in the light… the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

• Confess sin promptly; a clear conscience keeps spiritual ears tuned.

Step 9: Proclaim What You Have Seen and Heard

• The apostles shared their firsthand experience (1 John 1:1–3); do the same.

• Tell family, friends, and neighbors how the Word is changing you—testimony deepens ownership.

Summary of the Path

Approach the Bible with reverence, read it daily, meditate, memorize, obey, fellowship, rely on the Spirit, keep a clean heart, and share what you learn. Each step draws you closer to the One who is, Himself, the living “Word of life.”
