How to deepen understanding of God's love?
What practical steps can deepen our understanding of God's love in our lives?

Our Core Text

“ ‘And I have made Your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love You have for Me may be in them, and I in them.’ ” (John 17:26)

The Pattern Jesus Sets Before Us

• The Son reveals the Father’s name—His character, purposes, and heart.

• That revelation places the very love the Father has for the Son inside believers.

• Christ Himself dwells in us, making that love tangible and experiential.

Receive His Revelation Daily

• Read the Gospels slowly, noting every time Jesus speaks of the Father (John 14:9).

• Ask the Spirit to illuminate what the Father is like (1 Corinthians 2:10–12).

• Journal fresh insights; they become anchors for understanding His love.

Abide Where Love Flows

• “Remain in My love.” (John 15:9)

• Set specific times to linger in Scripture, avoiding rushed quiet times.

• Use short breath prayers—“Father loves me as You love Jesus”—to keep abiding throughout the day.

Fill Your Mind With Truth

• Memorize key verses: 1 John 3:1; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 3:17–19.

• Replace accusing or fearful thoughts by speaking these verses aloud.

• Post reminders on mirrors, dashboards, phone lock screens.

Walk in Obedience

• Love is perfected in those who keep His word (1 John 2:5).

• Identify one clear command you’ve delayed obeying, and act on it today.

• Obedience moves love from concept to lived reality.

Stay in Community

• God’s love is “made complete” when believers love one another (1 John 4:12).

• Join a small group where Scripture is opened, needs are shared, and practical care happens.

• Serve someone each week whose name is not on your calendar.

Practice Spirit-Led Prayer

Romans 5:5—“The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.”

• Begin prayer by thanking the Spirit for already pouring that love in; then ask for greater awareness.

• Pray Ephesians 3:17–19 over yourself and fellow believers.

Celebrate the Cross Frequently

• Schedule regular Communion or personal reflection on Calvary (Galatians 2:20).

• Sing hymns or worship songs that center on Christ’s sacrifice.

• Let gratitude for the cross recalibrate your understanding of love.

Share His Name Boldly

• The more we speak of Jesus, the more His love is confirmed in us (Philem 6).

• Keep a short testimony ready; share it when prompted.

• Celebrate each time you mention His name—it deepens conviction of His love.

Guard Against Counterfeit Loves

• Identify substitutes—approval, possessions, entertainment—that dull spiritual hunger.

• Fast periodically from these to sharpen desire for God’s love (Matthew 6:21).

• Replace the counterfeit with purposeful time in Word, prayer, and service.

A Life Saturated With Divine Love

As the Son keeps revealing the Father’s name, the same love the Father lavishes on Jesus takes root in us. By receiving His revelation, abiding, obeying, and living it out in community and witness, we grow in the lived certainty that “the love You have for Me may be in them, and I in them.”
