How to foster peace in our church?
In what ways can we promote peace within our church community?

Anchoring Our Study: Galatians 6:16

“Peace and mercy to all who walk by this rule, and to the Israel of God.”

Paul promises peace to believers who “walk by this rule.” In context (Galatians 6:14-15), that rule is the gospel: boasting only in the cross, living as a “new creation,” and keeping in step with the Spirit. Peace is not automatic; it is the fruit of gospel-shaped living.

Where Church Peace Begins

• Christ Himself is our peace (Ephesians 2:14).

• The cross removes every barrier of hostility (Galatians 3:28).

• A gospel-mindset reminds us that every brother and sister was bought with the same precious blood.

Habits That Cultivate Peace

• Pray together often (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

• Speak truth in love, not flattery or brutality (Ephesians 4:15; Proverbs 15:1).

• Carry one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).

• Extend quick, decisive forgiveness (Colossians 3:13-15).

• Pursue unity proactively, not reactively (Ephesians 4:3).

• Show hospitality and genuine warmth (Romans 12:13).

• Celebrate God’s work in others; refuse envy (1 Corinthians 12:26).

• Submit cheerfully to godly leadership (Hebrews 13:17).

• Address conflict privately first, then with witnesses if needed (Matthew 18:15-16).

• Serve with humility, counting others more significant (Philippians 2:3-4).

Guarding Against Peace-Stealers

• Gossip and slander fracture trust (Proverbs 16:28).

• Factions and party-spirit grieve the Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:3).

• Bitterness poisons many (Hebrews 12:15).

• Pride fuels quarrels (James 4:1).

• Neglect of Scripture and prayer dries up grace (Psalm 119:165).

• Tolerating false teaching endangers souls and unity (Romans 16:17).

A Peacemaker’s Mindset

• Keep the heart soft and watchful (Proverbs 4:23).

• Let every word build up (Ephesians 4:29).

• Maintain “short accounts” — deal with issues the same day (Ephesians 4:26).

• Practice empathetic listening (Romans 12:15).

• Aim for mutual edification, not personal victory (Romans 14:19).

• Rely on “the wisdom from above” that is “peace-loving… full of mercy” (James 3:17-18).

Promised Harvest for Peacemakers

• “Peacemakers who sow in peace reap the fruit of righteousness.” (James 3:18)

• “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9)

• “Live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” (2 Corinthians 13:11)

• A watching world will know we are Christ’s disciples by our love (John 13:34-35).

• God’s peace guards hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7).

Walking by ‘This Rule’

Keep the gospel central, and let every relationship, conversation, and ministry decision flow out of that rule. As we do, the Spirit pours out the very peace and mercy Galatians 6:16 promises, and our church becomes a living testimony to the power of the cross.

How does Galatians 6:16 connect with the concept of the 'Israel of God'?
