How to fulfill God's purpose like Jehu?
What actions can we take to fulfill God's purpose, as seen in Jehu's anointing?

Jehu’s Anointing: A Snapshot of Purpose

2 Kings 9:6: “So Jehu got up and went into the house, and the prophet poured the oil on his head and declared, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.’”

Jehu’s moment of anointing reveals how God aims to work through willing servants. The same patterns guide believers today.

Actions That Align Us With God’s Purpose

• Receive the call

– God initiates. Like Jehu, accept the assignment He speaks through His Word and by His Spirit (Isaiah 6:8; Ephesians 2:10).

• Stand on God’s Word as final authority

– The prophet’s declaration, not palace protocol, made Jehu king. Trust Scripture’s sufficiency (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

• Obey promptly and completely

– Jehu acted the same day (2 Kings 9:14–20). Delayed obedience is disobedience (1 Samuel 15:22; James 1:22).

• Confront evil decisively

– Jehu tore down Baal worship (2 Kings 10:18–28). Remove every idol in personal life (1 Corinthians 10:14).

• Serve with courage and zeal

– God’s mission may draw opposition. “Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:9). Jehu drove “furiously” when duty called (2 Kings 9:20).

• Guard humility under authority

– Though king, Jehu remained God’s servant. Pride ruins usefulness (James 4:6).

• Keep zeal tethered to righteousness

– Jehu’s later compromise warns us (Hosea 1:4). Align motives with God’s heart (Romans 12:1–2).

Daily Practices That Foster Readiness

• Immerse in Scripture

• Pray for discernment and boldness

• Gather with believers for mutual sharpening (Hebrews 10:24–25)

• Confess sin quickly; walk in holiness (1 John 1:9)

• Seek the Spirit’s empowerment (Galatians 5:16)

Fruit God Desires

• Personal transformation into Christlikeness

• Advancement of His kingdom purposes in family, church, workplace, nation

• Glory that returns to Him alone (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Just as Jehu stepped into his anointing, believers today fulfill God’s purpose by hearing His call, obeying His Word, and advancing His righteous agenda with humble, Spirit-led zeal.
