How to hear & apply God's truth today?
How can we "have heard" God's truth and apply it in our lives today?

Psalm 48:8—Hearing and Seeing God’s Faithfulness

“As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of Hosts—in the city of our God; God will establish her forever. Selah.” (Psalm 48:8)

The psalmist remembers hearing God’s promises and then witnessing them fulfilled. Hearing leads to seeing; belief becomes experience.

What We Have Heard: Unshakable Truths

• God’s covenant love never fails (Psalm 136:1).

• He secures and protects His people (Psalm 46:1–2).

• His salvation is found in Christ alone (Acts 4:12).

• He will establish His kingdom forever (Daniel 2:44; Revelation 11:15).

• Every word of Scripture is breathed out by God and fully reliable (2 Timothy 3:16).

How We Hear Today

• Daily reading of the written Word, the primary channel of God’s voice.

• Faith-building preaching and teaching within the local church (Ephesians 4:11–13).

• The Holy Spirit reminding and illuminating truth (John 14:26).

• The witness of creation declaring God’s glory (Psalm 19:1–4).

• Testimonies of fellow believers, showing that what we read still happens (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Applying What We Hear

1. Receive the Word with faith

– “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)

2. Meditate and memorize

– Turn verses over in the mind; keep them on the tongue (Psalm 1:2; Deuteronomy 6:6–7).

3. Obey immediately and completely

– “Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” (James 1:22)

4. Speak the truth to others

– “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… teaching and admonishing.” (Colossians 3:16)

5. Watch for fulfillment in real life

– Trace answered prayer, changed hearts, and providential care; record them so hearing becomes seeing.

6. Persevere when circumstances contradict what was heard

– Hold fast, knowing God will establish His purposes just as He did for Zion (Hebrews 10:23).

Living It Out Together

• Gather consistently for worship where Word-centered songs, prayers, and sermons reinforce what God says.

• Share weekly testimonies of how Scripture proved true, encouraging one another.

• Mentor younger believers, passing on both the message and the memory of God’s works (Psalm 78:4–7).

• Stand for biblical truth in a shifting culture, confident the Lord will establish His city.

Takeaway

We have heard God’s truth through His inspired Word, and as we trust, meditate, obey, and share that truth, we begin to see its power shape every area of life. What was once only heard becomes lived reality, confirming again that God “will establish her forever.”
