How to inspire generous giving?
How can we encourage our community to give generously like in 1 Chronicles 29:6?

The Example in 1 Chronicles 29:6

“Then the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.”

•Every level of leadership stepped forward.

•Their giving was voluntary, not coerced.

•The act was public, inspiring the whole assembly.

Cultivating Willing Hearts Today

•Share testimonies of how God has provided for givers (Psalm 37:25).

•Emphasize that generosity is a privilege, not a burden (Acts 20:35).

•Teach that true wealth is measured eternally, not temporarily (Matthew 6:19-21).

Teaching the Theology of Giving

•Explain that giving is God-directed: “Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give… for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

•Highlight the promise of provision: “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse… and see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you.” (Malachi 3:10)

•Point to Jesus’ commendation of sacrificial giving in Luke 21:1-4.

Modeling Generosity in Leadership

•Just as David gave first (1 Chronicles 29:3-4), leaders should set the pace.

•Share leaders’ commitments openly, fostering trust and momentum.

•Remind leaders that example carries more weight than exhortation (1 Peter 5:3).

Creating Transparent Opportunities to Contribute

•Present clear projects with defined goals, mirroring the temple vision.

•Report progress regularly: “For we are taking pains to do what is right… in the eyes of the Lord and man.” (2 Corinthians 8:21)

•Offer varied avenues—time, talents, and treasures—so everyone participates.

Celebrating God’s Provision Together

•Follow Israel’s pattern: “Then the people rejoiced at the willingness… for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD.” (1 Chronicles 29:9)

•Make giving testimonies part of corporate worship.

•Use moments of celebration to redirect praise to God, not donors (James 1:17).

Connecting Giving to Worship

•Present giving as an act of worship: “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual service of worship.” (Romans 12:1)

•Integrate giving into the liturgy, not as a break from worship but as worship.

•Encourage hearts to see offerings as thanksgiving for the gospel’s riches (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Maintaining a Gospel-Centered Motivation

•Christ gave Himself “as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45), the supreme model.

•When the community grasps grace, generous giving follows naturally (2 Corinthians 8:1-2).

•Keep the cross before the congregation; generosity flows from gratitude.
