How to keep God's presence with us?
How can we ensure God's presence remains in our lives, unlike Jeremiah 25:10?

The Warning of Jeremiah 25:10

“Moreover, I will banish from them the voice of joy and gladness, the voices of the bride and bridegroom, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.” (Jeremiah 25:10)

Israel’s refusal to heed God’s Word led to the silencing of celebration and the extinguishing of light—clear signs that His manifest presence had departed. The verse serves as a sober reminder: obedience welcomes His nearness; rebellion drives it away.

God’s Desire to Dwell with His People

• From Eden onward, God has pursued fellowship: “I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.” (Leviticus 26:12)

• In Christ, this desire is intensified: “Behold, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

• The Spirit seals His abiding presence: “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

Cultivating Continual Fellowship

1. Wholehearted Obedience

– “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” (John 14:23)

2. Ongoing Repentance

– “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

3. Saturation in Scripture

– “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” (Colossians 3:16)

4. Persistent Prayer

– “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

5. Corporate Worship

– “For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

6. Loving Fellowship

– “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds, not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

7. Active Service

– “Each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” (1 Peter 4:10)

Guarding Against Spiritual Drift

• Reject syncretism: “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too.” (1 Corinthians 10:21)

• Flee habitual sin: “Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22)

• Beware hardened hearts: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 3:15)

• Maintain spiritual vigilance: “Be sober-minded; be watchful.” (1 Peter 5:8)

Living as Lamps Filled with Oil

Jeremiah speaks of a lamp extinguished; Jesus calls believers “the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14) We shine when:

• Our lives are trimmed of compromise.

• The oil of the Spirit fuels holiness and witness.

• We reflect His character in daily relationships.

Summary

God’s presence is not elusive; it is promised to the obedient, repentant, Word-saturated, prayer-filled, worshiping, serving believer. By guarding against the pitfalls that silenced Judah’s joy in Jeremiah 25:10, we live in unbroken fellowship with the One who delights to dwell among His people.
