How to learn & follow them daily?
How can we "learn" and "follow them carefully" in our daily lives today?

Foundational Call to Listen and Obey

“ Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances that I speak in your hearing today. Learn them and be careful to follow them.’ ” (Deuteronomy 5:1)

Hearing God’s Instruction Today

• Set aside daily, unrushed time to read Scripture aloud, echoing Israel’s public hearing of God’s word

• Use a faithful translation and read whole passages, not isolated verses, to grasp context

• Invite the Spirit’s illumination by quietly pausing before and after reading (John 16:13)

• Supplement personal reading with faithful teaching in your local church (Ephesians 4:11-13)

Cementing Truth in the Mind

• Memorize key passages; start with the Ten Commandments (Deuteronomy 5:6-21)

• Meditate throughout the day—write verses on cards, set phone reminders (Joshua 1:8)

• Sing or listen to Scripture-saturated worship (Colossians 3:16)

• Journal insights, tracing how each command reveals God’s character

Obeying in Everyday Choices

• Move from information to transformation: “But be doers of the word and not hearers only” (James 1:22)

• Filter daily decisions through God’s commands: speech, finances, relationships, entertainment

• Practice quick repentance when convicted, claiming 1 John 1:9

• Celebrate progress, knowing “His commands are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3)

Living the Covenant in Community

• Discuss Scripture with family or friends, reinforcing mutual accountability (Hebrews 10:24-25)

• Share testimonies of obedience and God’s faithfulness

• Support one another in practical service—caring for widows, orphans, the poor (James 1:27)

• Encourage your church to read through the Bible together yearly

Relying on Christ the Fulfillment

• Remember Jesus “did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17)

• Trust His righteousness credited to believers (2 Corinthians 5:21)

• Draw strength from the indwelling Spirit to keep God’s commands (Romans 8:4)

• Let gratitude for the gospel fuel joyful obedience

Practical Steps for This Week

1. Read Deuteronomy 5 aloud twice, noting one command that needs attention

2. Memorize Deuteronomy 5:1 and recite it at meals

3. Replace one habitual action that violates a command with a God-honoring alternative

4. Share with a fellow believer how you applied the passage

5. Thank God each evening for one instance of grace-enabled obedience
