What actions can we take to live wisely, knowing our days "pass away"? A short verse to frame our study “Teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12) Number Your Days Intentionally • Pause daily to remember that life is brief (James 4:14). • Keep a journal or calendar with eternal goals noted beside temporal tasks. • Begin each morning asking, “How will I honor the Lord with the hours He gives me today?” Pursue God-given Priorities • Seek first His kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33). • Let Scripture shape the day’s agenda before social media, news, or entertainment. • Identify one concrete act of obedience from each day’s Bible reading and follow through. Redeem the Time Wisely • “Pay careful attention… redeeming the time” (Ephesians 5:15-16). • Schedule purposeful rest and Sabbath—busy souls need renewal to serve well. • Limit idle scrolling or binge-watching; reallocate those minutes to prayer, reading, or conversation that builds others up. Invest in Eternal Relationships • People, not possessions, cross into eternity. Encourage, disciple, and reconcile (2 Timothy 2:2). • Use meals and commutes for meaningful conversations about the Lord. • Bless the next generation by sharing testimonies of God’s faithfulness (Psalm 78:4). Cultivate Humility and Repentance • Life’s brevity reminds us of our frailty; confess sin quickly (1 John 1:9). • Ask trusted believers to speak truth into blind spots; heed their counsel (Proverbs 27:6). • Practice gratitude, acknowledging every good gift as from the Father (James 1:17). Serve with Joyful Urgency • “Always excelling in the work of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). • Volunteer in church and community with the mindset that each act echoes in eternity. • Keep a running list of people to encourage, pray for, or help, and check it often. Keep Hope Fixed on Christ • “Set your minds on things above” (Colossians 3:1-2). • Meditate on promises of resurrection and the new creation (Revelation 21:1-4). • Let future glory fuel present faithfulness, knowing our temporary afflictions are “achieving for us an eternal glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). Putting It All Together Number each day, choose God’s priorities, redeem minutes, love people, stay humble, serve eagerly, and keep eyes on eternity. In doing so, we answer Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90:12 and “gain a heart of wisdom” while our fleeting days glorify the One who is everlasting. |
