How to make God our fortress?
What actions can we take to make God our "fortress" and "stronghold"?

Anchoring Verse

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2)

What a Fortress and Stronghold Mean

• A fortress is an impenetrable refuge, high and secure.

• A stronghold is a place that resists every assault.

• God is not merely the builder—He Himself is the protective walls.

Choosing to Dwell Inside the Fortress

• Trust Him above every earthly safeguard (Psalm 91:2).

• Run to Him first, not last, when trouble hits (Proverbs 18:10).

• Refuse substitutes—money, influence, relationships cannot shield like He can (Jeremiah 17:5–8).

Daily Actions That Fasten Us to the Walls

• Open His Word morning and night; let truth reinforce your mind (Joshua 1:8).

• Pray candidly and continually; conversation with the King keeps you inside the gates (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• Worship aloud; praise shifts focus from the foe to the Fortress (Psalm 59:16–17).

• Obey promptly; every act of obedience is another brick set in place (John 15:10).

• Confess sin quickly; unconfessed sin leaves cracks for the enemy (1 John 1:9).

• Stand in gospel armor; wear every piece God issues (Ephesians 6:10–18).

• Gather with believers; the fortress is also a thriving city, not a lone tower (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Living in the Safety You Already Possess

• Remember past rescues—review them often (Psalm 77:11).

• Speak His promises out loud; they reinforce confidence (2 Peter 1:4).

• Rest—cease frantic striving, knowing the walls hold (Exodus 14:14).

• Expect His deliverance; anticipation honors the Defender (Psalm 62:5–8).

The Result

Choosing these practices turns abstract theology into lived reality. God’s protection surrounds, stabilizes, and satisfies—today, tomorrow, and for eternity.
