How to make our faith eternal today?
How can we ensure our faith is "engraved in rock forever" today?

Job’s Cry for Permanence

“that with an iron stylus and lead they were engraved in the rock forever!” (Job 19:24)

Job wanted his testimony chiseled into stone so no storm could erase it. We share that longing. How do we make sure our faith is equally indelible today?

Christ—the Living Rock

• “For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:11)

• “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24–25)

Our faith is secure only when anchored to Jesus Himself. A rock inscription lasts because the rock itself lasts; the same is true of faith fixed on Christ.

Six Practices That Chisel Faith into Stone

1. Saturate in Scripture

Psalm 119:89: “Your word, O LORD, is everlasting; it is firmly fixed in the heavens.”

• Read, meditate, and memorize. The more the Word etches itself on the heart, the deeper the groove.

2. Obedient Action

James 1:22 calls us to be doers, not hearers only. Obedience drives truth from theory into living granite.

3. Public Confession & Witness

Romans 10:9 ties confession to salvation. Speaking openly about Christ carves our allegiance where others can read it.

4. Covenant Signs

• Baptism (Romans 6:4) and the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:26) are God-given “engraving tools” that mark us as His.

5. Discipleship & Community

Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another.”

• Faith deepens when sharpened against other believers.

6. Written & Digital Testimony

• Journals, letters, recordings, even social media posts can preserve God’s work in your life for generations—modern “iron styluses with lead.”

Passing the Chisel to the Next Generation

Deuteronomy 6:6–7 urges us to teach God’s words “diligently to your children.”

2 Timothy 2:2 instructs us to entrust truth “to reliable men, who will also be qualified to teach others.”

Teaching, mentoring, and storytelling transfer a faith that outlives us.

God Guarantees the Inscription

Isaiah 40:8: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

John 10:28–29: “No one can snatch them out of My hand.”

When we build on Christ, practice His Word, confess Him openly, and hand the truth to others, He Himself guards the engraving. Wind, time, and culture may batter the surface, but the chisel marks remain—forever.
