How to mimic a shepherd daily?
How can we emulate the shepherd's actions in our daily lives?

Setting the Scene

Luke 15:3 (“Then Jesus told them this parable:”) introduces a true-to-life story in which a shepherd personally pursues one lost sheep and celebrates its recovery (vv. 4-7). Every detail is purposeful, revealing Christ’s own heart and showing us how to act toward others.

The Shepherd’s Key Actions

• Leaves the ninety-nine in open pasture

• Goes after the one that is lost, “until he finds it” (v. 4)

• Lifts the sheep onto his shoulders with joy (v. 5)

• Calls friends and neighbors to rejoice (v. 6)

Translating Those Actions into Daily Life

• Intentional Priorities

– Make time for individuals who drift spiritually or relationally.

– Accept short-term inconvenience to meet long-term needs.

• Persistent Pursuit

– Follow up: a call, text, visit, or meal shows you won’t quit “until you find” them.

– Pray continually; persistence begins in the secret place (Colossians 4:2).

• Compassionate Lifting

– Shoulder burdens without shaming (Galatians 6:2).

– Offer practical help—rides, childcare, tutoring, meals—anything that lightens the load.

• Joyful Restoration

– Celebrate progress openly; affirmation reinforces repentance (Philemon 1:7).

– Share testimonies to stir faith in the wider community.

Guarding the Ninety-Nine While Reaching the One

• Teamwork: enlist mature believers to watch over existing responsibilities (Acts 6:3-4).

• Clear Boundaries: ensure loved ones know when and why you’re absent.

• Balanced Care: remember the ninety-nine still matter; schedule regular check-ins.

Scriptural Reinforcements

Psalm 23:1: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

– His provision becomes our model of steady care.

John 10:11: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”

– Sacrificial love defines authentic pursuit.

Ezekiel 34:16: “I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bind up the broken, and strengthen the weak…”

– God personally demonstrates the pattern we copy.

James 5:19-20: “My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death…”

– Every rescue carries eternal weight.

Living the Parable Today

• Stay alert for the “one” in your sphere—family member, coworker, neighbor, or church attender drifting away.

• Step out first; waiting rarely retrieves the lost.

• Carry them with kindness, not criticism, until they can walk beside you.

• Celebrate every return; heaven already is (Luke 15:7).

By mirroring the shepherd’s priorities, persistence, compassion, and joy, we embody Christ’s heart and draw others home to Him.
