How to not be hidden from God?
How can we avoid being "hidden" from God's face in Isaiah 64:7?

Recognizing the Problem

Isaiah 64:7 pinpoints two failures that led to God hiding His face: “No one calls on Your name or strives to take hold of You.” When genuine fellowship is neglected, the Lord allows people to feel the weight of their own iniquity.

What Causes God to Hide His Face?

• Unconfessed sin (Isaiah 59:2)

• Spiritual apathy—failing to “call” and “take hold” (Hosea 7:7)

• Trusting self‐righteousness instead of God’s mercy (Luke 18:11–14)

• Persistent disobedience despite knowledge of truth (James 4:17)

Steps to Keep His Face Shining on Us

1. Call on His Name

Psalm 50:15—“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17—“Pray without ceasing.”

2. Take Hold of Him

Hebrews 10:22—“Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.”

John 15:4—“Remain in Me, and I will remain in you.”

3. Confess and Turn from Sin

1 John 1:9—“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive.”

Proverbs 28:13—“He who conceals his sins will not prosper.”

4. Walk in Obedient Faith

John 14:21—Obedience demonstrates love and invites deeper revelation.

Psalm 119:105—The Word lights the path of obedience.

5. Cultivate Godly Sorrow, Not Worldly Regret

2 Corinthians 7:10—Godly sorrow leads to repentance without regret.

6. Engage in Corporate Worship and Fellowship

Hebrews 10:24–25—Mutual encouragement keeps hearts fervent.

7. Live a Lifestyle of Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4—Enter His gates with thanksgiving; praise sustains awareness of His presence.

Living It Out Daily

• Start every morning by acknowledging God’s sovereignty and seeking His direction.

• Keep short accounts with sin; confess immediately.

• Memorize promises that assure His nearness (e.g., Psalm 27:8–9).

• Replace idle moments with prayer, Scripture meditation, or worship music.

• Serve others intentionally; often His face is seen most clearly while ministering (Matthew 25:40).

Encouraging Promises

Numbers 6:24–26—His desire is to make His face “shine upon you.”

Psalm 34:5—“Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”

Jeremiah 29:13—“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Consistent, heartfelt pursuit turns Isaiah 64:7 from warning into invitation: as we call on His name and take hold of Him, His face is not hidden but gleams upon us with favor, guidance, and abiding joy.
