How to nurture family spiritual gifts?
What steps can we take to nurture spiritual gifts within our families?

A Household Overflowing with Prophecy (Acts 21:9)

“He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.”

- Philip’s home shows that spiritual gifts can flourish right inside the family circle when the environment is healthy and Spirit-filled.

Step 1: Build a Gospel-Soaked Atmosphere

- Keep Christ central in everyday conversation (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

- Make your home a place of hospitality and joy, as Philip did for Paul and his team (Acts 21:8).

- Fill rooms with Scripture, worship, and gratitude (Colossians 3:16).

Step 2: Encourage Purity and Whole-Hearted Devotion

- Philip’s daughters were “unmarried”; their undivided devotion gave space for the Spirit to work.

- Call every family member—young and old—to exemplary conduct (1 Timothy 4:12).

Step 3: Model Active Ministry

- Philip was “the evangelist” (Acts 21:8). Children saw faith in action.

- Let kids join you in service projects, witnessing, and prayer for others (2 Timothy 2:2).

Step 4: Teach and Practice the Word

- “All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable…” (2 Timothy 3:16).

- Memorize passages together; discuss what they mean and how to obey.

- Tie every spiritual gift back to solid biblical foundations (Romans 12:6).

Step 5: Welcome the Spirit’s Manifestations

- “Earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” (1 Corinthians 14:1)

- Remind the family that Joel 2:28 still stands: sons and daughters will prophesy.

- Celebrate each gift—whether encouragement, service, or prophecy—as a gracious work of God.

Step 6: Create Safe Opportunities to Exercise Gifts

- Schedule family devotions where children can share impressions, Scriptures, or songs.

- Let them pray aloud for relatives, classmates, and missionaries (1 Peter 4:10).

- Involve them in church life—youth nights, service teams, missions trips.

Step 7: Affirm, Test, and Refine Each Gift

- “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt, but test all things; hold fast to the good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19-21)

- Offer gentle feedback: What aligned with Scripture? What edified?

- Encourage accountability partnerships among siblings or peers.

Step 8: Keep the Mission Outward-Focused

- Gifts thrive when aimed at evangelism and edification, not self-promotion (Acts 1:8).

- Plan outreach as a family—neighborhood cookouts, care packages, gospel conversations.

- Rejoice together when God uses any gift to draw people to Jesus.
