What actions can we take to prepare for the final judgment described here? Setting the scene: Revelation 20:14 “Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.” Because Scripture is both accurate and literal, this sober verse points to a real, future courtroom where every soul will be judged (Hebrews 9:27). The great question is how to stand ready when that day arrives. Recognize the reality of final judgment • Accept that the second death is permanent separation from God in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). • Allow this reality to sober and motivate your heart (2 Corinthians 5:11). Invest in eternal priorities • Store treasures in heaven, not merely on earth (Matthew 6:19-21). • Use time, talents, and resources so that they survive the refining fire of Christ’s judgment seat (1 Corinthians 3:12-15). • Live with eternity in view, “for we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:10) Encourage others toward readiness • Share the gospel generously—Christ’s command and our neighbor’s greatest need (Matthew 28:19-20). • “Snatch others from the fire and save them.” (Jude 23) • Strengthen fellow believers, “encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25) Taking these steps now—faith in Christ, ongoing repentance, holy living, perseverance, eternal investment, and gospel witness—prepares us to stand with confidence when Death and Hades are cast away forever and the books are opened. |
