How can we seek God's forgiveness when we fall short like Achar? The Troubler’s Lesson 1 Chronicles 2:7 points back to Achan: “The son of Carmi was Achar, the troubler of Israel, who violated the ban set apart for destruction.” His hidden sin stalled Israel’s progress and cost lives (Joshua 7). God recorded the event so we would know how seriously He views sin—and how generously He offers forgiveness through Christ. Recognize the Weight of Sin • Sin always affects more than just us; it burdens families, churches, even whole communities. • Joshua 7:13: “You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove [the accursed things].” Unconfessed sin blocks blessing. • Let the Spirit search you: Psalm 139:23-24. Come Clean—Confession • God already knows; He wants honesty: Psalm 32:3-5. • 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” • Confession is naming the sin without excuses—agreeing with God’s verdict. Turn Around—Repentance • Proverbs 28:13: “Whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.” • Godly sorrow is more than regret; it produces change: 2 Corinthians 7:10. Practical steps: – Remove the “accursed thing” (delete, discard, end the habit). – Set accountable boundaries. – Replace with obedience (Ephesians 4:22-24). Rest in Christ’s Provision • Achan died for his sin; Jesus died for yours. • Ephesians 1:7: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses.” • Hebrews 4:16 invites you to the throne of grace—no need to hide like Achan. Make Things Right with Others • Sin harms people; restoration must follow. • Matthew 5:23-24: seek reconciliation before worship. • Where possible, repay what was stolen, mend what was broken, seek peace. • Galatians 6:1 reminds the church to restore gently. Guard Your Heart for the Future • Daily Scripture intake and prayer keep the conscience tender (Psalm 119:11). • Fellowship and accountability shield against secrecy (Hebrews 10:24-25). • Remember Jesus’ words: John 8:11—grace followed by “go and sin no more.” Promises to Hold Onto • Psalm 51:10-12—God can renew a clean heart and restore joy. • Romans 8:1—“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” • 1 Peter 1:18-19—You were ransomed “with the precious blood of Christ.” When we fall short like Achar, we do not have to share his fate. By confessing, repenting, and trusting the finished work of Jesus, we experience full forgiveness and fresh power to walk in obedience. |
