In what ways can we actively seek Jesus in our daily lives? Setting the Scene in Jerusalem “Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.” (John 12:20) John introduces outsiders who travel long miles, drawn by a longing that can be summed up in the next verse: “Sir, we wish to see Jesus” (John 12:21). Their simple request captures a timeless desire—one that can shape every ordinary day. A Heart That Wants to See Jesus • Desire precedes direction. • Scripture consistently links seeking with finding: “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). • Jesus Himself promises, “Seek, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7). An eager heart positions us for the practical steps that follow. Practical Ways to Seek Him • Immerse in His Word – Read, meditate, memorize. – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). • Pray Continually – Turn moments into conversations with Him. – “In everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6). • Walk in Daily Obedience – Respond to what He shows; obedience sharpens spiritual sight. – “Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me” (John 14:21). • Abide in Close Fellowship – Stay connected to believers who spur you on. – “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). • Serve the Least – Meet Christ in acts of mercy. – “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me” (Matthew 25:40). • Notice Him in Creation – Treat the world around you as His artistry. – “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities…have been clearly seen” (Romans 1:20). • Welcome Him into Suffering – Trials can become meeting places. – “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Connecting Scripture to Everyday Steps • Begin the morning with John 15:4—“Abide in Me, and I in you”—then plan one concrete act of obedience. • At lunch break, recite Hebrews 12:2—“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus”—reorienting focus. • End the day reviewing Colossians 3:16—“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly”—asking where His word shaped your choices. Guarding the Pursuit • Watch for distractions that dull desire (Luke 10:40-42). • Reject the pull of people-pleasing (Galatians 1:10). • Keep short accounts through confession (1 John 1:9). Encouraged by His Promise Jesus rewards the seeker: “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there will My servant be also” (John 12:26). The Greeks’ request is still answered—anyone who earnestly seeks Him finds Him, right in the middle of ordinary life. |
