What steps can we take to seize opportunities God opens for us? The Text – 1 Corinthians 16:9 “because a great door for effective work has opened to me, although many oppose me.” Recognize the Door God Opens • God Himself unlocks opportunities: “What He opens no one can shut” (Revelation 3:7–8). • Trust that every genuine door aligns with Scripture and advances the gospel. • Keep alert to doors in ordinary settings—workplaces, neighborhoods, friendships. Stay Sensitive Through Prayer and the Word • “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2–4). • Regular Scripture intake tunes the heart to God’s timing (Psalm 119:105). • Ask for guidance: “If any of you lacks wisdom… it will be given” (James 1:5). Prepare Diligently • God’s open doors invite preparation, not passivity. • Sharpen gifts and skills so you are “an approved worker” (2 Timothy 2:15). • Remember Ephesians 2:10—good works are “prepared in advance” but still require our readiness. Step Forward Courageously Despite Opposition • The presence of adversaries does not cancel the opportunity—Paul faced “many” and pressed on. • “Be strong and courageous… the LORD your God is with you” (Joshua 1:9). • Expect pushback; refuse to let fear dictate decisions. Partner with Fellow Believers • Even the apostle sought support: “Pray also for us” (Colossians 4:3). • Shared labor multiplies effectiveness and accountability (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10). • Celebrate diverse gifts within the body (1 Corinthians 12). Persist in Faithfulness • Some doors stay open for a season; perseverance keeps us fruitful. • “Let us not grow weary in well-doing” (Galatians 6:9). • Measure success by obedience, not by immediate visible results. Guard Against Distractions • Opposition can be external; distraction is often internal. • “A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). • Keep priorities clear: seek first His kingdom and righteousness. Give God the Glory • Opportunities exist to magnify Christ, not ourselves. • When fruit appears, echo Psalm 115:1—“Not to us, LORD, not to us, but to Your name be the glory.” |
