How to use man's change for spiritual growth?
How can we apply the man's transformation to our personal spiritual growth?

A Moment That Changes Everything

“Then the people went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.” (Luke 8:35)

Three Visible Marks of Transformation

- Sitting at Jesus’ feet – posture of humility and learning

- Clothed – outward evidence of dignity restored

- In his right mind – inner renewal and sound thinking

Translating His Experience Into Our Growth

1. Sit at Jesus’ Feet Daily

• Prioritize unhurried time in Scripture and prayer.

Luke 10:39 shows Mary choosing “the better part” by sitting and listening; the pattern is consistent.

• Expect the Word to teach, correct, and train us (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

2. Put On the New Clothes

Ephesians 4:22–24 calls us to “put off” the old self and “put on” the new.

• Practical step: replace old habits with righteous alternatives—gossip with encouragement, bitterness with forgiveness.

Colossians 3:12–14 lists the wardrobe: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love.

3. Guard the Mind Christ Restored

Romans 12:2 urges, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

• Filter entertainment, conversations, and thought patterns through Philippians 4:8—whatever is true, honorable, just, pure.

• Memorize key verses; they become ready weapons against returning lies (Matthew 4:4).

4. Stay Close to the Deliverer, Not the Chains

• The townspeople wanted distance; the healed man wanted proximity (Luke 8:38). Choose his response.

• Abide in fellowship with believers (Hebrews 10:24–25). Isolation reopens old doors.

5. Tell Your Story Boldly

• Jesus sent the man home to “declare how much God has done” (Luke 8:39).

• Sharing keeps the miracle fresh and points others to the same Redeemer (Revelation 12:11).

A Snapshot of Ongoing Growth

- Position: remain at Christ’s feet

- Condition: clothed in new attitudes

- Cognition: mind renewed by truth

- Mission: testify to His power

Scriptures to Keep Handy

- 2 Corinthians 5:17 – new creation reality

- Psalm 40:2–3 – lifted from the pit, given a new song

- Ephesians 2:4–6 – raised up and seated with Christ

Living out Luke 8:35 means letting the One who delivered us define us—every single day.
