What steps can we take to ensure we walk on "the Way of Holiness"? Setting Our Eyes on the Verse “ And there will be a highway called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not travel it; only those who walk in that Way— and fools will not stray onto it.” (Isaiah 35:8) Cleared for the Journey: Receive God’s Cleansing • We cannot step onto the Way of Holiness unless we are first made clean. – “The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7) – “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29) • Repent, believe, and rest in Christ’s finished work. Only the cleansed “travel” this highway. Stay Inside the Guardrails: Anchor Yourself in Scripture • God’s Word lights the path so we don’t wander. – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105) • Regular, prayerful reading and meditation keep our feet on solid pavement. • Memorize key verses that confront recurring temptations. Keep Moving Forward in Loving Obedience • Holiness isn’t a scenic overlook; it’s a road of action. – “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15) – “As obedient children… be holy in all you do.” (1 Peter 1:14-16) • Quick obedience, even in small matters, trains the heart for larger ones. Choose Wisdom, Reject Folly • Isaiah affirms that “fools will not stray onto it.” Wisdom is deliberate. – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” (Proverbs 9:10) – Ask God for wisdom daily; He “gives generously.” (James 1:5) • Evaluate influences—books, media, friendships—asking, “Does this make me wiser in Christ?” Walk Alertly and Intentionally • Distractions and detours threaten every traveler. – “Look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.” (Proverbs 4:25-27) – “Be very careful how you walk… making the most of every opportunity.” (Ephesians 5:15-17) • Schedule regular check-ins: examine motives, confess sin promptly, recalibrate goals. Travel with Fellow Pilgrims • We are safer and stronger together. – “Let us consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds… not neglecting to meet together.” (Hebrews 10:24-25) • Small groups, worship services, and godly friendships provide accountability, encouragement, and correction. Live with the Destination in View • The highway leads to Zion’s joy, not endless wandering. – “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14) – “Nothing unclean will ever enter [the New Jerusalem].” (Revelation 21:27) • Let the promised glory motivate perseverance and purity today. Walking the Way of Holiness is not complicated, but it is intentional: cleansed by Christ, guided by Scripture, marked by obedience, guarded by wisdom, pursued in community, and energized by the hope of glory. |
