Setting the Scene in Ezekiel

Ezekiel witnesses six armed angels and a seventh who carries an inkwell. The seventh marks every person “who sighs and groans over all the abominations” in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 9:4). Once the sealing is finished, judgment falls without pity. Verse 10 is the Lord’s own declaration: “But as for Me, My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity; I will bring their deeds down upon their own heads.”

The Unchanging Principle of Divine Justice

Deuteronomy 32:41–42 — The Lord “will render vengeance on My adversaries.”

Psalm 94:1–3 — He is “the God of vengeance” who “repays.”

Galatians 6:7 — “God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, he will reap.”

Romans 2:5–6 — He “will repay each one according to his deeds.”

Revelation 20:12 — The dead are “judged according to their deeds” from the books.

Mercy Quietly Running in the Background

Even as Ezekiel hears the sentence of verse 10, mercy is already operating:

Ezekiel 9:4 — The righteous are sealed for preservation.

Ezekiel 18:23 — God takes “no pleasure in the death of the wicked.”

Lamentations 3:22–23 — “Because of the LORD’s loving devotion we are not consumed.”

Isaiah 55:7 — The wicked who repent find that He “will abundantly pardon.”

Micah 7:18–19 — He “delights in loving devotion” and casts sins into the sea.

Judgment and Mercy Side-by-Side in Other Scenes

Exodus 34:6–7 — God is “abounding in loving devotion” yet “by no means leave the guilty unpunished.”

Jonah 3:4, 10 — Nineveh faces destruction but receives mercy when it repents.

Psalm 103:8–12 — Compassion and forgiveness temper His discipline “as far as the east is from the west.”

James 2:13 — “Mercy triumphs over judgment,” not by canceling justice, but by fulfilling its demands through grace.

Where the Two Streams Meet

Romans 3:25–26 — At the cross God proves Himself “just and the justifier.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 — Christ “became sin for us” so we might “become the righteousness of God.”

1 Peter 2:24 — Judgment fell on Jesus; mercy flows to all who trust Him.

Living in the Light of Ezekiel 9:10

• God’s justice means every deed matters; nothing escapes His notice.

• His mercy offers refuge: repentance and faith bring sealing, not wrath.

• The twin truths motivate holy living (Hebrews 12:28) and urgent gospel witness (Jude 22–23).

How can Ezekiel 9:10 encourage believers to pursue holiness today?
