Isaiah 62:12 – The Promise Stated

“And they will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD; and you will be called Sought Out, a City Not Forsaken.”

Four Names, Four Facets of Redemption

- Holy People – separation from sin and consecration to God

- Redeemed of the LORD – purchased back at a price He Himself pays

- Sought Out – actively pursued by divine initiative

- City Not Forsaken – permanent security within God’s dwelling

Redemption Accomplished in Jesus

- “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses.” (Ephesians 1:7)

- “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.” (Galatians 3:13)

- “He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession.” (Titus 2:14)

- “You were redeemed… with the precious blood of Christ.” (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Every New Testament statement above shows the literal price and action foretold by Isaiah: the LORD Himself secures His people.

A Holy People: Our New Testament Identity

- 1 Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation…”

- Ephesians 2:19 – “You are… members of God’s household.”

- Hebrews 12:23 – “the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven.”

The holiness pronounced in Isaiah is confirmed as a present reality for all who trust Christ.

Sought Out: The Shepherd’s Pursuit

- Luke 19:10 – “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

- John 4:23 – “the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.”

- Revelation 5:9 – He “purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue.”

God’s initiative in Isaiah is mirrored in Jesus’ earthly mission and ongoing call through the gospel.

A City Not Forsaken: Eternal Security

- Hebrews 13:5 – “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

- John 10:28 – “No one will snatch them out of My hand.”

- Revelation 21:2 – the holy city, New Jerusalem, prepared as a bride.

Isaiah’s city language looks ahead to the gathered, secure people of God, ultimately displayed in the heavenly Jerusalem.

Walking Worthy of the Name

- Live set apart: reject sin, pursue righteousness (1 Peter 1:15-16).

- Remember the price: honor Christ with grateful obedience (1 Corinthians 6:20).

- Join the mission: carry the seeking heart of Jesus to the lost (2 Corinthians 5:20).

- Rest in assurance: trust His promise never to forsake you (Romans 8:38-39).
