NT links: anointing & consecration?
What New Testament connections exist regarding anointing and consecration?

Leviticus 8:10—Old Covenant Picture of Anointing

“Moses took the anointing oil, anointed the tabernacle and everything in it, and consecrated them.” (Leviticus 8:10)

• Oil set apart every article and space for God’s exclusive use.

• Priests and furnishings could now function in holy service.

• This physical act pointed forward to a richer, spiritual reality.

Christ—The Fulfillment of All Anointing

Luke 4:18 – “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me…” Jesus claims the role of the divinely Anointed One.

Acts 10:38 – “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.”

Hebrews 9:11-12 – He entered the “greater and more perfect tabernacle” with His own blood, securing eternal redemption.

• Every Old-Testament drop of oil foreshadowed the Messiah, whose very title “Christ” means “Anointed One.”

The Holy Spirit—New Covenant Anointing

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 – God “anointed us, placed His seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts.”

1 John 2:20, 27 – Believers possess an “anointing from the Holy One” that “remains” and “teaches.”

• The pouring out of oil is replaced by the indwelling of the Spirit, but the purpose is the same: setting God’s people apart for Him.

Believers Consecrated as God’s Sanctuary

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit… therefore glorify God with your body.”

1 Peter 2:9 – “A chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation…”

Romans 12:1 – Offer your bodies as “living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.”

• Just as the tabernacle was anointed, we are now Spirit-anointed “living tabernacles,” carrying His presence into everyday life.

Practical Connections

– Old Covenant: oil on wood, fabric, and bronze.

– New Covenant: Spirit on hearts of flesh.

– Old Covenant: priests serve in a tent.

– New Covenant: every believer serves wherever God places them.

– Old Covenant: consecration was repeated.

– New Covenant: Christ’s once-for-all work permanently sets us apart (Hebrews 10:10, 14).

Living Out Our Anointing

• Walk in the Spirit’s power, confident that God Himself has equipped you.

• Guard purity, remembering you are set apart.

• Serve others sacrificially, reflecting the Anointed Servant, Jesus.
