Other scriptures on righteousness?
What other scriptures emphasize the importance of righteousness and integrity before God?

The foundation: 2 Samuel 22:25

“ And the LORD has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in His sight.”

David’s confidence rests on a life aligned with God’s character. Scripture consistently echoes that same call.

Old-Testament echoes of righteousness

Psalm 18:24 – “So the LORD has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.”

Psalm 24:3-4 – “Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? … He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear deceitfully.”

Psalm 15:1-2 – “He who walks with integrity and practices righteousness, who speaks the truth from his heart.”

Micah 6:8 – “He has shown you, O man, what is good… to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Isaiah 33:15-16 – “He who walks righteously and speaks with sincerity … he will dwell on the heights; his refuge will be the mountain fortress.”

Wisdom literature on everyday integrity

Proverbs 10:9 – “He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.”

Proverbs 11:3 – “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the faithless destroys them.”

Job 27:5-6 – “I will maintain my integrity until I die. I will cling to my righteousness and never let go.”

Jesus raises the bar

Matthew 5:6 – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

The apostles carry the torch

Ephesians 4:24 – “Put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Philippians 1:10-11 – “…be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.”

1 Peter 1:15-16 – “Just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.”

1 John 3:7 – “The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.”

James 2:17-18 – “Faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead… I will show you my faith by my deeds.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 – “God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

1 Timothy 6:11 – “But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.”

Living it out today

• Pursue a clean heart through daily repentance and obedience.

• Let integrity govern hidden thoughts as well as public actions.

• Measure success by faithfulness to God’s standard, not by cultural approval.

• Rely on Christ’s finished work (2 Corinthians 5:21) while actively “pursuing” righteousness (1 Timothy 6:11).

• Expect God’s reward—both the security of His presence now and eternal fellowship with Him—just as David experienced.

How can we ensure our actions align with God's standards as in 2 Samuel 22:25?
