Other scriptures on stewardship?
What other scriptures emphasize the importance of stewardship over God's blessings?

Jeremiah 2:7—A Wake-Up Call for Stewards

“I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and bounty, but you came and defiled My land; you made My inheritance detestable.” (Jeremiah 2:7)

Israel received a good land as a gift, yet misuse turned blessing into loss. The verse stands as an early warning: what God entrusts must be safeguarded and used for His purposes.

The Foundational Truth: God Owns Everything

Psalm 24:1 — “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof, the world and all who dwell therein.”

Deuteronomy 10:14 — “Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it.”

Because ownership remains with Him, our role can only be stewardship.

Our Appointment as Stewards

Genesis 1:28 — God’s first mandate: “fill the earth and subdue it; rule over” every creature.

Genesis 2:15 — “Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.”

1 Corinthians 4:1-2 — “Men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God… it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

From creation onward, management—not ownership—defines the human assignment.

Honoring the Giver Through Faithful Management

Proverbs 3:9-10 — “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits… then your barns will be filled with plenty.”

Deuteronomy 8:10-18 — Moses reminds Israel to bless the LORD “for the good land,” lest they say, “My power… has gained this wealth.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 — Generous sowing brings abundant reaping, “so that in all things… you may abound in every good work.”

Faithful use of resources mirrors gratitude and keeps hearts from pride.

Warnings Against Neglect and Abuse

Haggai 1:5-11 — Paneled houses overshadowing God’s house lead to drought and deficit.

Malachi 3:8-10 — Withholding tithes is called “robbing God,” closing heaven’s windows.

Luke 16:10-12 — “He who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much… if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will entrust you with true riches?”

Scripture links misuse with loss—of provision, joy, and future opportunity.

Promises of Increase for Faithful Stewards

Matthew 25:14-30 — The parable of the talents: stewardship rewarded with greater trust—“Well done… you were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.”

Luke 19:12-27 — Similar pattern: “Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, have authority over ten cities.”

God delights to multiply resources through those who steward well.

Stewardship Extends Beyond Material Blessings

1 Peter 4:10-11 — “As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.”

1 Thessalonians 2:4 — The gospel itself is a trust: “We speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.”

Colossians 4:5 — “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, redeeming the time.”

Time, spiritual gifts, and the gospel message are blessings to manage for His glory.

Living the Lesson Today

• Recognize ownership: Everything—money, abilities, moments—already belongs to Him.

• Practice gratitude: Regular thanksgiving keeps the heart tuned to the Giver.

• Prioritize God’s purposes: Align budgets, schedules, and talents with kingdom values.

• Expect accountability: One day, as in every parable of stewardship, the Master will “settle accounts.”

• Anticipate reward: Faithfulness today leads to expanded influence and eternal joy with the Lord.

The call ringing from Jeremiah 2:7 resounds throughout Scripture: receive God’s blessings with reverence, manage them with faithfulness, and watch Him turn trust into lasting fruit.

How can we ensure we honor God's gifts, as warned in Jeremiah 2:7?
