Prepare for spiritual attacks like Peter?
How can we prepare for spiritual attacks like Peter in Luke 22:31?

Setting the Scene

“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.” (Luke 22:31)

Why the Warning Matters

- Spiritual attacks are real, personal, and often timed for moments of transition (Luke 22:31–34).

- Satan’s goal is to uproot faith, but Jesus’ goal is to refine it (Luke 22:32).

Christ’s Unshakable Provision

- Jesus intercedes: “I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail.” (Luke 22:32; cf. Hebrews 7:25)

- Restoration is already in view: “And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:32)

Recognize the Enemy’s Tactics

- Accusation and condemnation (Revelation 12:10)

- Deception about identity and calling (Genesis 3:1; Luke 4:3)

- Isolation from fellowship (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

- Exploiting pride and self-confidence (Proverbs 16:18; Luke 22:33)

Prepare Your Heart

- Humble Dependence

- Admit weakness: Peter’s overconfidence became his downfall (Luke 22:33-34).

- “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

- Watchfulness

- “Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion.” (1 Peter 5:8-9)

- Stay attuned to pressure points—fatigue, success, loneliness, conflict.

- Persistent Prayer

- “Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into temptation.” (Matthew 26:41)

- Pray Scripture back to God; use Psalms for language when words fail (Psalm 86:1-7).

Clothe Yourself with God’s Armor (Ephesians 6:10-18)

- Belt of truth: combat lies with what God says.

- Breastplate of righteousness: stand in Christ’s finished work.

- Gospel shoes: keep moving in mission, not fear.

- Shield of faith: extinguish fiery darts of doubt.

- Helmet of salvation: guard thought life with assurance.

- Sword of the Spirit: quote specific verses against specific temptations (Psalm 119:11; Matthew 4:1-11).

- Pray in the Spirit: constant communication keeps armor fitted.

Strengthen Your Position through Fellowship

- Confess and pray with trusted believers (James 5:16).

- Submit to pastoral oversight; elders watch for your soul (Hebrews 13:17).

- Serve others; warfare often eases when focus shifts outward (1 Peter 4:10-11).

Respond Quickly When You Fall

- Repent without delay: concealment compounds damage (Proverbs 28:13).

- Receive Christ’s forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive.” (1 John 1:9)

- Resume Kingdom work: Peter preached at Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41) after restoration (John 21:15-19).

Live Ready, Not Fearful

- Expect conflict but rest in Christ’s victory (Colossians 2:15).

- Use hardship as training for future ministry (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

- Keep your eyes on Jesus, Author and Finisher of faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Prepared believers don’t avoid every sift, but they emerge purified, steady, and able to strengthen others—just like Peter.
