Prevent spiritual neglect: actions?
What actions can we take to prevent spiritual neglect as seen in Psalm 74:7?

Seeing the Danger in Psalm 74:7

“They have set Your sanctuary on fire; they have profaned the dwelling place of Your name, bringing it to the ground.” (Psalm 74:7)

Safeguard Worship Through Reverence

• Treat worship gatherings and personal devotion spaces as holy (Malachi 1:6 - 8).

• Approach God with “reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:28 - 29).

• Remove anything that diminishes His glory (John 2:16 - 17).

Guard the Sanctuary of Your Heart

• “Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple…?” (1 Corinthians 3:16 - 17).

• Keep short accounts with God through confession (1 John 1:9).

• Practice daily self-examination (Psalm 139:23 - 24).

• Walk by the Spirit to silence sin’s first whisper (Galatians 5:16).

Stay Rooted in Scripture

• Read and meditate on the Word consistently (Joshua 1:8).

• “Present yourself approved… rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

• Let Scripture guide every ministry decision (Psalm 119:105).

Commit to Corporate Fellowship

• “Let us not neglect meeting together… but encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:25).

• Engage actively—sing, serve, give, practice the one-anothers (Romans 12:10 - 13).

• Create accountability circles where lukewarmness is lovingly confronted (Galatians 6:1 - 2).

Pray Protectively and Persistently

• Intercede for leaders, families, and ministries (Ephesians 6:18).

• Fast when spiritual dullness appears (Isaiah 58:6 - 9).

• Use Psalm 74 as a template, asking God to defend His name.

Pass the Torch to the Next Generation

• “Teach them diligently to your children” (Deuteronomy 6:6 - 7).

• Model authentic faith at home.

• Involve youth in service so ownership replaces apathy (Psalm 145:4).

Steward Resources for God’s House

• Give generously; maintain facilities that honor God (Exodus 35:4 - 10).

• Invest time and talents in ministries that exalt Christ (Matthew 6:19 - 21).

• Reform or retire programs that no longer serve His glory.

Respond Quickly When Decay Appears

• Confront compromise early (Song of Songs 2:15).

• Use church discipline to keep the body pure (Matthew 18:15 - 17).

• Strengthen what remains after repentance (Revelation 3:2 - 3).

Live as Living Sacrifices

• “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… your spiritual service of worship” (Romans 12:1).

• Let everyday actions affirm God’s ownership (Colossians 3:17).
