Respond to mockery per Lamentations 3:63?
How should we respond to mockery and persecution, based on Lamentations 3:63?

Setting the Scene

“Whether they sit or rise, see, I am mocked in their songs.” (Lamentations 3:63)

Jeremiah records the jeers of those around him. Their ridicule is constant—“whether they sit or rise.” Mockery is not new; it is woven into the experience of God’s people.

How Mockery Manifests

• Verbal taunts and sarcasm, like “their songs” aimed at Jeremiah

• Social exclusion or belittling remarks at school, work, or online

• Legal or physical pressure against believers who hold to biblical truth

God’s View of the Mockers

• He sees everything (Hebrews 4:13). Nothing escapes His notice.

• He records every word (Matthew 12:36). Idle or malicious speech will face judgment.

• He promises justice in His timing (Romans 12:19).

Our Response: Four Guiding Commitments

1. Endure Without Retaliation

• “Do not repay anyone evil for evil…overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:17, 21)

• God’s wrath, not ours, settles accounts (v. 19).

2. Rejoice in Shared Suffering with Christ

• “Blessed are you when people insult you…because of Me.” (Matthew 5:11)

• “If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed.” (1 Peter 4:14).

3. Keep Doing Good Publicly

• Jeremiah kept proclaiming truth despite ridicule (Jeremiah 20:9).

• “Let your light shine before men.” (Matthew 5:16)

4. Entrust Yourself to God’s Faithfulness

• “The LORD is my portion…therefore I will hope in Him.” (Lamentations 3:24)

• Jesus “entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.” (1 Peter 2:23)

Scriptural Encouragement

Psalm 37:1–3 – “Do not fret because of evildoers.”

2 Timothy 3:12 – “All who desire to live a godly life…will be persecuted.”

Hebrews 12:2–3 – Consider Jesus, “so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Living It Out Today

• Pray for those who mock you, naming them before the Lord.

• Continue speaking truth with grace; silence can appear to validate error.

• Invest in fellowship—mockery feels sharper in isolation.

• Memorize key verses (e.g., Matthew 5:11–12) to steady your heart in the moment.

• Celebrate small victories of faithfulness; every quiet act of obedience matters.
