Respond to queries on God's work?
How should we respond when questioned about God's work in our lives?

Seeing Saul’s Conversation Up Close

“Saul’s uncle asked him and his servant, ‘Where did you go?’ ‘To look for the donkeys,’ he replied. ‘But when we saw they were not to be found, we went to Samuel.’” (1 Samuel 10:14)

What Stands Out in Saul’s Reply

• Truthful—no embellishment or half-truths

• Modest—he omits the dramatic anointing scene (vv. 1–12)

• Discreet—he recognizes the timing for sharing deeper things has not yet come

Lessons We Draw for Our Own Conversations

1. Speak honestly

Colossians 3:9 reminds us, “Do not lie to one another.” Even simple questions deserve straight answers.

2. Stay humble

1 Corinthians 4:7 asks, “What do you have that you did not receive?” Any story of God’s work should exalt Him, not us.

3. Exercise godly discretion

Proverbs 10:19: “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.” Some details are better saved for the moment God opens the door.

4. Guard holy moments

Matthew 7:6 cautions against casting pearls before those unready to receive them. Timing matters.

5. Be ready when openness is right

1 Peter 3:15: “Always be prepared to give an answer… yet with gentleness and respect.” Silence now does not excuse silence later.

Putting It Into Practice

• Pause before answering; ask, “Will this exalt Christ and help the listener?”

• Share the undeniable facts—what happened and how God provided.

• Skip details that might feed pride, gossip, or misunderstanding.

• When God nudges, step forward and testify boldly (Acts 4:20).

• Keep returning credit to the Lord—“The LORD has done this for me” (Luke 1:25).

The Balance We Aim For

Honesty without bragging.

Transparency without indiscretion.

Bold witness without forcing what God has not yet unveiled.

When questions come, we follow Saul’s initial restraint, later backed by open testimony at God’s chosen hour (1 Samuel 11:12–15). In every season, our words point back to the One who is quietly, powerfully at work.

How does 1 Samuel 10:14 connect with God's guidance in Proverbs 3:5-6?
