Show faith solidarity today: how?
How can we practically show solidarity with those suffering for their faith today?

Sharing Their Chains: Insights from Hebrews 10:34

“For you sympathized with the prisoners and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and lasting possession.”

Why Our Hearts Must Move Toward Persecuted Believers

Hebrews 10:34 shows that first-century Christians felt the pain of jailed brothers and sisters so deeply they even lost their own goods without complaint.

Hebrews 13:3 echoes the call: “Remember those in prison as if you were bound with them.”

1 Corinthians 12:26 reminds us we are one body; “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.”

• Their situation is a litmus test of our love (1 John 3:16–18).

Practical Acts of Solidarity Today

• Pray consistently and specifically

Colossians 4:2–4: ask that doors open for the word and that prisoners proclaim it boldly.

– Keep a list or app alert so names and nations stay before you daily.

• Write and encourage

Proverbs 25:25: “Like cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a distant land.”

– Send letters through vetted ministries; include Scripture promises such as Psalm 34:18 or Romans 8:37.

• Give sacrificially

2 Corinthians 8:1–4: Macedonians gave “beyond their ability.”

– Direct gifts to families of prisoners, legal aid funds, Bible smuggling efforts, trauma counseling.

• Advocate and raise awareness

Proverbs 31:8–9: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

– Share verified stories, contact elected officials, use social platforms responsibly, host awareness nights.

• Offer hospitality

Romans 12:13: “Practice hospitality.”

– Open your home to refugees, visiting pastors, or family members of detainees. Provide meals, transportation, community.

• Fast in unity

Isaiah 58 links true fasting with loosening chains of injustice.

– Set regular times—individually or as a church—to forgo meals, focusing attention on persecuted believers.

• Partner church to church

Philippians 4:14–16 models gospel partnerships.

– “Twin” your congregation with a congregation under pressure; exchange testimonies and share resources.

Keeping Joy Alive When Sacrifice Hurts

Hebrews 10:34 roots joy not in possessions but in “a better and lasting possession.”

Matthew 5:11–12 promises heavenly reward for those reviled for Christ.

Revelation 12:11 shows victory “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Remember: investment in suffering saints is investment in eternity.

Daily Reminders to Sustain Commitment

• Place a map or photo of a persecuted region where you pray.

• Set calendar alerts on significant trial dates or court hearings.

• Share one persecuted believer’s story at family meals or small-group gatherings each week.

• Celebrate answered prayers publicly—strengthens faith and fuels further action.

Looking Ahead to the “Better and Lasting Possession”

Our solidarity may cost time, comfort, or even property, yet Hebrews assures us the loss is temporary. Every act done for Christ’s afflicted body stores up treasure that cannot be confiscated (Matthew 6:19–21). So we press on—remembering, supporting, and rejoicing with those who suffer for the Name, until we all share that eternal inheritance together.
