Show trust in Jesus in tough times?
How can we demonstrate trust in Jesus during challenging situations, like in Luke 8:56?

Setting the Scene

Luke 8 records Jairus begging Jesus to heal his dying twelve-year-old daughter. On the way, Jesus is delayed by a woman who touches His cloak for healing. Before He reaches Jairus’s house, news arrives that the girl has died. Undeterred, Jesus proceeds, takes her by the hand, and raises her to life.

“Her spirit returned, and at once she got up… Her parents were astounded, but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.” (Luke 8:55-56)

Key Observations from Luke 8:56

• Jairus’s trust survived a crushing report—“Your daughter is dead” (v. 49).

• Jesus replaced fear with faith: “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be healed.” (v. 50)

• The miracle came after the delay, showing that divine timing overrules human urgency.

• Jesus asked for secrecy (v. 56), keeping the focus on faith, not publicity.

Ways to Demonstrate Trust in Jesus

• Keep believing when circumstances worsen.

– Faith is proven when hope looks impossible.

• Replace fear statements with faith statements.

– Speak God’s promises aloud (Psalm 56:3).

• Accept divine interruptions.

– Jairus waited while Jesus healed someone else; trust means yielding to His priorities.

• Follow Jesus inside the crisis.

– Jairus, Peter, John, and James entered the room with Him (v. 51); trust sticks close to Christ.

• Obey even the quiet commands.

– Parents fed the girl (v. 55) and guarded the story (v. 56); small obediences seal great victories.

Supporting Scriptural Examples

Proverbs 3:5-6 — “Trust in the LORD with all your heart…He will make your paths straight.”

Mark 4:39-40 — Calming the storm; He asks, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

John 11:40 — Lazarus: “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”

Philippians 4:6-7 — Prayer and thanksgiving bring peace that “surpasses all understanding.”

1 Peter 5:7 — “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

Practical Application

1. Identify one present challenge and consciously hand it to Jesus, refusing to reclaim it mentally.

2. Memorize and recite a faith verse each time fear surfaces.

3. Journal delays and detours you face, noting later how God used them.

4. Stay involved in a Christ-centered community; Jairus had witnesses of faith around him.

5. Celebrate private victories without needing public applause, content that Jesus knows.

Why might Jesus have instructed silence after performing a miracle in Luke 8:56?
