How can we discern and act against evil influences in our lives today? Jehu’s Clear Call to Choose Sides “ He looked up at the window and called out, ‘Who is on my side? Who?’ And two or three eunuchs looked down at him.” (2 Kings 9:32) • Jehu refuses to tolerate Jezebel’s poisonous influence any longer. • He publicly demands a choice—allegiance to God’s purposes or allegiance to evil. • The eunuchs’ quick response shows that decisive lines must sometimes be drawn. Recognizing Modern Jezebels Evil rarely wears a name tag, yet it shows up in: • Media that glamorizes immorality (1 John 2:16). • Relationships that erode holiness (1 Corinthians 15:33). • Philosophies that deny Christ’s lordship (Colossians 2:8). • Private habits that dull spiritual sensitivity (Psalm 101:3). Ask yourself: “Is this influence drawing me closer to Christ or pushing me toward compromise?” Training Our Spiritual Senses Discernment is not automatic; it is cultivated. • Saturate your mind with Scripture—“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). • Pray specifically for wisdom—“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God” (James 1:5). • Test the spirits—“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits” (1 John 4:1). • Welcome godly counsel—“Plans fail for lack of guidance, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22). Taking Decisive Action Jehu did more than spot the evil; he dealt with it (2 Kings 9:33). • Resist—“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). • Separate—“Come out from among them and be separate” (2 Corinthians 6:17). • Replace—“Detest what is evil; cling to what is good” (Romans 12:9). • Armor up—“Put on the full armor of God” (Ephesians 6:11). Finding and Becoming Allies Jehu needed partners; so do we. • Seek fellowship that sharpens you (Proverbs 27:17). • Encourage one another daily (Hebrews 10:24–25). • Stand shoulder-to-shoulder in prayer and accountability (Galatians 6:1–2). Living in the Assurance of Victory Evil’s reign is temporary; Christ’s triumph is certain. • “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Romans 16:20). • “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). • Therefore, discern boldly, act decisively, and walk confidently—the battle is the Lord’s, and His victory is ours. |
