Trust the Lord as our help and shield?
How can we trust the Lord as "our help and shield" today?

Anchored in the Text

“O Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and shield.” (Psalm 115:9)

Help and Shield—Two Sides of the Same Promise

• Help: the Lord steps in, acts, intervenes, supplies what we lack

• Shield: the Lord surrounds, absorbs the blow, prevents what would harm

Why His Promise Still Stands

• Unchanging Character – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

• Proven Track Record – “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.” (Psalm 28:7)

• Flawless Word – “Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” (Proverbs 30:5)

Practical Ways to Trust the Lord as Help and Shield Today

1. Fill the mind with His Word

– Daily reading plants unshakeable truth (Psalm 119:114).

2. Pray with expectation

– Ask, then watch for His timely interventions (Matthew 7:7–8).

3. Obey promptly

– Trust grows when we act on what He says (John 14:21).

4. Recall past deliverances

– Testimonies fuel present confidence (1 Samuel 17:37).

5. Stay in fellowship

– God often shields through His people (Hebrews 10:24–25).

6. Exercise faith in spiritual battle

– “Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” (Ephesians 6:16)

Facing Today’s Pressures Under His Shield

• Worry about provision → Trust His help (Philippians 4:19)

• Cultural hostility → Rest in His protection (Psalm 18:2)

• Temptation → Rely on His way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13)

• Physical danger → Remember His surrounding favor (Psalm 5:12)

• Spiritual warfare → Stand behind His finished victory (Colossians 2:15)

Living the Promise

Because the Lord literally is our help and shield, faith is never wishful thinking. It is confidence in the God who steps in and stands guard—today, tomorrow, and forever.
