Trusting God's guidance today?
How can we trust God's guidance in our responsibilities today?

Setting the Scene of 1 Chronicles 26:14

• “The lot for the east gate fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and the lot for the north gate fell to him.”

• Gatekeepers guarded the temple—an essential, God-appointed duty.

• Casting lots signified reliance on God’s choice, not human preference.

God Orchestrates Our Assignments

• The lot “fell” by divine direction (cf. Proverbs 16:33).

• Each person received a specific gate, showing God’s precise placement.

• Wise counselor Zechariah reminds us that godly wisdom and divine sovereignty work together.

Reasons We Can Trust His Guidance Today

• His sovereignty hasn’t changed (Malachi 3:6).

• He places members in the body “just as He desired” (1 Corinthians 12:18).

• Jesus, the Good Shepherd, still leads His sheep (John 10:3-4).

• The Spirit indwells and directs every believer (Romans 8:14).

Practical Ways to Lean on His Direction

• Saturate your mind with Scripture; God’s will never contradicts His Word.

• Pray for wisdom—He “gives generously” (James 1:5).

• Seek counsel from mature believers, as Zechariah was “a wise counselor.”

• Pay attention to providential circumstances; God opens and closes doors (Revelation 3:7).

• Move forward in faith; obedience invites further clarity (Psalm 37:23).

Confirming Guidance Through Scripture

Proverbs 3:5-6 — Trust and He will make your paths straight.

Psalm 32:8 — “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.”

Isaiah 30:21 — “This is the way; walk in it.”

Philippians 2:13 — God works in us “to will and to act according to His good purpose.”

Living Responsibly Under His Direction

• Embrace the role He assigns—big or small—knowing it’s strategic in His plan.

• Serve faithfully at your “gate,” recognizing your post protects and blesses others.

• Cultivate wisdom like Zechariah so your counsel aligns with God’s purposes.

• Rest in His sovereignty; if He chose your station, He supplies the grace to fulfill it.

Compare the use of lots in 1 Chronicles 26:14 to Acts 1:26.
