Use God-given skills to serve church?
How can we apply the skills God gives us to serve the church?

A snapshot of Exodus 35:32

“to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze,”

Recognize the Source

• God “filled him with the Spirit” (Exodus 35:31), so every aptitude—artistic, technical, administrative, relational—originates with the Spirit, not mere human talent.

1 Corinthians 12:7 “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

• Application: thank God for your abilities before you use them; this keeps pride out and worship in.

Dedicate Skills to God’s House

• Bezalel’s craftsmanship served the tabernacle; our craftsmanship serves the local church.

1 Peter 4:10 “As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.”

• Practical ways:

– Musicians refine sound for worship gatherings.

– IT professionals safeguard livestreams and church data.

– Accountants administer finances with integrity.

– Carpenters and designers maintain facilities that welcome people.

Pursue Spirit-Filled Excellence

Exodus 35:33 shows skill applied to wood, stone, metal—precision and beauty matter.

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

• Refuse mediocrity: rehearse, research, rehearse again. Excellence magnifies the God who gave the skill.

Move From Inspiration to Action

Exodus 36:2 “Then Moses summoned Bezalel… everyone whose heart stirred him to come and do the work.”

James 2:17 “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

• Act quickly on Holy Spirit promptings—join the worship team, volunteer for VBS décor, offer pro-bono legal help—before distractions choke the impulse.

Embrace the Diversity of Gifts

Romans 12:6-8 lists teaching, giving, leading, showing mercy alongside prophecy. No hierarchy exists; each is vital.

• Healthy churches showcase interlocking skills: facility crews, prayer warriors, hospitality teams, youth mentors—all reflecting one Body (1 Corinthians 12:14-18).

Mentor and Multiply

Exodus 35:34 “He has also put within him the ability to teach…”

2 Timothy 2:2 “What you have heard from me… entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

• Train apprentices: sound techs bring teens to the booth, seasoned counselors coach new volunteers, artists host workshops for children. Skills reproduce when shared.

Stay Humble, Stay Connected

Ephesians 4:16 “From Him the whole body… grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

• Regular fellowship prevents lone-ranger ministry and fosters accountability.

• Celebrate others’ gifts publicly; jealousy dissolves when the spotlight is shared.

Daily Rhythm for Skillful Service

• Morning: acknowledge God as the Giver.

• Throughout the day: look for needs your skill can meet.

• Evening: recount how the Spirit used you; thank Him and evaluate improvements for tomorrow.

Bottom Line

Whatever your craft—coding, cooking, counseling, composing—offer it willingly, refine it diligently, and release it generously so that Christ’s church is built up and His glory displayed.
