What is the meaning of Ephesians 1:6? To the praise Paul’s opening hymn overflows with worship. God brings us into salvation so that hearts, voices, and lives resound with praise (Ephesians 1:12,14). • The Psalmist echoes, “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD” (Psalm 150:6). • Peter says we are “a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you” (1 Peter 2:9). Every blessing God pours out circles back to honor Him. Of His glorious grace Grace is God’s undeserved favor, and it shines with the very glory of His being. • John testifies that the Son came “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). • Paul reminds Titus that “the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men” (Titus 2:11). • We are “justified freely by His grace” (Romans 3:24). The spotlight is always on God’s character—radiant, generous, beautiful. Which He has freely given us Nothing here is earned. God pours grace out “without money and without cost” (Isaiah 55:1). • “He who did not spare His own Son… will He not also, with Him, freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32). • From the fullness of Christ “we have all received grace upon grace” (John 1:16). In Ephesians 1 Paul has already listed some of these gifts: election (v.4), adoption (v.5), redemption and forgiveness (v.7). All are lavish, not loaned. In the Beloved One Every spiritual blessing flows through union with Christ. • At Jesus’ baptism the Father declared, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). • The Father “has transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son” (Colossians 1:13). • Because we are “in Christ Jesus” we become “sons of God through faith” (Galatians 3:26). Acceptance, security, and inheritance are ours only because we are folded into the love the Father has for His Son (John 17:23–24). summary Ephesians 1:6 lifts our eyes to see God’s ultimate purpose: that our lives echo praise. He accomplishes this by showcasing grace—glorious, unearned, overflowing—poured out through our union with His beloved Son. Every blessing we enjoy in Christ turns our hearts back to worship the God who freely gives, and whose grace will be celebrated forever. |
