What sacrifices for God's kingdom?
What sacrifices might God be calling you to make for His kingdom?

Setting the Scene with Jesus’ Promise

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel…” (Mark 10:29)

What Does Jesus Mean by “Leaving”?

Not everyone is literally called to walk away from family or property, yet the principle is clear: nothing can outrank Christ’s call. When He is first, anything else may be placed on the altar.

Possible Areas of Sacrifice Today

• Relationships

– Choosing loyalty to Christ over approval from unbelieving friends (Luke 12:51–53)

– Respectfully refusing family expectations that conflict with obedience to Jesus (Acts 5:29)

• Possessions & Finances

– Releasing material security to invest generously in gospel work (Matthew 6:19–21)

– Living simply so resources can bless the needy (1 John 3:17)

• Plans & Ambitions

– Surrendering career goals when God redirects (James 4:13–15)

– Setting aside hobbies or comforts to serve where the Church lacks workers (Philippians 2:3–4)

• Time & Convenience

– Prioritizing regular worship, study, and fellowship even when schedules are tight (Hebrews 10:24–25)

– Volunteering in unnoticed, inconvenient ministries because Christ sees (Colossians 3:23–24)

• Reputation & Status

– Bearing misunderstanding or ridicule for biblical convictions (1 Peter 4:14–16)

– Staying faithful to truth when culture applauds compromise (Romans 12:2)

Why These Sacrifices Are Worth It

• Jesus promises a hundredfold return “now in this age—homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life” (Mark 10:30).

• God never overlooks devotion; He rewards both here and forever (Hebrews 6:10).

Guiding Principles for Discernment

• Present your body “as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual service of worship” (Romans 12:1).

• Count everything loss “because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:8).

• “Any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:33).

Next Steps in Obedience

• Ask the Spirit to expose anything competing with Christ’s lordship.

• Take the first concrete action—big or small—that aligns your life with His priority.

• Trust that whatever is relinquished, the King repays with Himself, and He is always enough.
