What skills does God give us today?
What skills does God grant us today to fulfill His purposes?

God, the Source of Skill and Creativity

“He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of craftsmanship” (Exodus 35:31).

• The same Spirit who equipped Bezalel still equips believers today.

• Every aptitude—mental, artistic, technical, relational—originates in God’s purposeful design (James 1:17).

Skills Then and Now

• Old Testament artisans (Exodus 35–36) mirror New Testament giftings (1 Corinthians 12:4-7).

• God’s variety spans:

– Wisdom for strategy (Proverbs 2:6)

– Artistry for beauty (Exodus 31:3-5)

– Leadership for order (Romans 12:8)

– Teaching for clarity (Ephesians 4:11)

– Mercy for care (Romans 12:8)

– Service for practical needs (1 Peter 4:11)

Practical Skills God Grants Today

• Craftsmanship: builders, designers, engineers

• Communication: writers, speakers, translators

• Technology: developers, analysts, innovators

• Creative arts: musicians, painters, filmmakers

• People-care: counselors, nurses, hospitality teams

• Administration: organizers, planners, project managers

• Evangelism & discipleship: mentors, church planters, youth leaders

Purpose Behind the Gifts

• To glorify God—“whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

• To build up others—“each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up” (Romans 15:2).

• To advance the gospel—“we are ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

• To complete prepared works—“we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

Cultivating God-Given Skills

• Seek the Spirit’s filling daily (Ephesians 5:18).

• Immerse in Scripture for wisdom (Psalm 119:97-100).

• Practice diligently—talents grow through faithful use (Matthew 25:21).

• Serve within community; gifts mature alongside others (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Stay humble—“apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Stepping into His Purpose

God still “fills” His people so His work on earth advances. Recognize the skill He has placed in you, yield it to the Spirit’s direction, and watch Him weave your abilities into His larger, redemptive plan.

How does God's Spirit enable us for tasks, as in Exodus 35:31?
