What burdens today can we trust God to remove, as in Psalm 81:6? The Promise in Psalm 81 verse 6 “I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.” Israel once bent under literal slave-loads in Egypt. God broke that yoke, proving He is a burden-lifting God for every generation. Everyday Loads God Lifts Today • Sin and guilt – Psalm 103 12; 1 John 1 9 • Condemnation – Romans 8 1 • Fear and anxiety – Philippians 4 6-7; 1 Peter 5 7 • Shame over past failures – Isaiah 54 4 • Legalistic yokes and self-righteous striving – Matthew 11 28-30; Galatians 5 1 • Oppression and injustice – Isaiah 58 6; James 5 4 • Crushing grief – Psalm 34 18; Revelation 21 4 • Overwhelming responsibilities – Psalm 55 22; Isaiah 41 10 • Spiritual bondage to the enemy – Colossians 1 13-14; 1 John 4 4 How the Lord Removes the Burden • Substitution: Christ carried our sin load at the cross (2 Corinthians 5 21). • Indwelling strength: the Spirit empowers endurance (Isaiah 40 31; Ephesians 3 16). • Divine intervention: God opens Red-Sea pathways, shifting circumstances beyond human control (Exodus 14 13-14; Psalm 34 19). • Loving correction: He dismantles self-made yokes through discipline and truth (Hebrews 12 6-11; John 8 32). • Shared community: believers “carry one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6 2), becoming God’s hands. • Final deliverance: resurrection promise secures total freedom from every burden for eternity (2 Corinthians 4 17-18). Living Light: Our Daily Response 1. Admit the load and bring it to the Lord. 2. Agree with Scripture that Christ has authority to lift it. 3. Cast the care on Him in prayer and refuse to pick it back up. 4. Accept His peace and obey any step He reveals. 5. Assist others still under their baskets, demonstrating the same mercy received. |
