Why celebrate God's past deliverances?
Why is it important to remember and celebrate God's past deliverances in our lives?

A Passover Like No Other

“No such Passover had been observed in Israel since the days of the prophet Samuel; and none of the kings of Israel had celebrated such a Passover as Josiah did, with the priests, the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, along with the people of Jerusalem.” (2 Chronicles 35:18)

Why Celebrating Past Deliverance Matters

• Builds unshakable faith

Psalm 77:11-12 “I will remember the works of the LORD… I will meditate on all Your mighty deeds.”

• Guards us from spiritual amnesia

Deuteronomy 4:9 “Be careful… so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen.”

• Sparks deep gratitude and worship

Psalm 103:2 “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits.”

• Inspires fresh obedience

1 Samuel 12:24 “Consider what great things He has done for you.”

• Encourages the next generation

Exodus 12:24-27: Passover told the children how God rescued them.

• Becomes a testimony to outsiders

Psalm 105:1 “Give thanks… proclaim His deeds among the nations.”

• Overcomes present fear

Revelation 12:11 “They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

What Happens When We Forget

• Grumbling replaces gratitude (Numbers 11:1)

• Idols creep in to fill the vacuum (Judges 2:10-12)

• Courage falters in new trials (Numbers 14:1-4)

• The next generation drifts (Psalm 78:10-11)

Practical Ways to Keep the Memory Alive

1. Mark anniversaries of God’s help—write the date, retell the story.

2. Share deliverance stories at mealtimes or gatherings.

3. Keep tangible “stones of remembrance” (Joshua 4:7).

4. Sing hymns and songs that recount His acts (Colossians 3:16).

5. Celebrate communion with fresh awe—“Do this in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19).

6. Journal answers to prayer; reread them during tough seasons.

7. Teach children your personal rescue stories; connect them to Scripture.

Living in Continual Gratitude and Anticipation

Remembered deliverance fuels present joy and future hope. Just as Josiah’s Passover rekindled national devotion, rehearsing God’s interventions today keeps hearts warm, worship vibrant, and faith ready for the next chapter He will write.
