1And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. 2And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, “Here am I.” 3And He said, “I am God, the God of your father: do not fear to go down into Egypt; for I will make of you a great nation there: 4I will go down with you into Egypt; and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph shall put his hand upon your eyes.5And Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel transported Jacob, their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the carts which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. 6And they took their cattle, and their goods that they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt. 7Jacob brought all his descendants with him: his sons, his sons' sons, his daughters, his sons' daughters, and all his offspring, into Egypt.

8The names and counts of Israel and his descendants who came from Canaan into Egypt follow: Reuben was Israel’s first son - one of six born to him by his wife, Leah, 9The four sons of Reuben were: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. 10Simeon was Israel’s second son; and he had six sons: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, who was born to a Canaanite woman. 11Israel’s third son, Levi, had three sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 12Israel’s fourth son, Judah, had three surviving sons: Shelah, Perez, and Zerah. Two of his sons, Er and Onan, had died in the land of Canaan. Judah’s son, Perez, also had two sons, Hezron and Hamul. 13Israel’s fifth son, Issachar, had four sons: Tola, Puvah, Job, and Shimron. 14Israel’s sixth son, Zebulun, had three sons: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. 15Leah bore these six sons and one daughter, Dinah, to Jacob in Paddan-aram; and from these six sons, 22 grandsons and 2 great-grandsons descended -a total of thirty-two souls descended from Leah; and if you add Israel (Jacob) - thirty-three, in all.

16Two sons were born to Israel by Zilpah, Leah’s maid: Gad and Asher; and Gad had six sons: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. 17And Asher had four sons: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and one daughter, Serah. And Asher’s son, Beriah, had 2 sons: Heber, and Malchiel. 18These sixteen souls, offspring of Israel by Zilpah, were also among those who came from Canaan to Egypt.

19Jacob's wife, Rachel, bore him 2 sons: Joseph, and Benjamin. 20And while in Egypt, Joseph had 2 sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, by Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera, the priest of On. 21And Joseph’s son, Benjamin, had ten sons: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. 22These fourteen souls were descended from Rachel and Jacob; and eleven of them came from Canaan to Egypt with Israel.

Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, also bore two sons to Jacob: 23Dan, who had 1 son, Hushim; 24And Naphtali, who had 4 sons: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. 25These seven descendants of Bilhah also came from Canaan to Egypt with Israel.

26And so the number of direct descendants of Israel that left Canaan for Egypt with Israel were sixty-seven, besides the wives of Israel's sons. 27Joseph and his two sons were already in Egypt; making a total of seventy members of Israel’s family who were now in Egypt.

28And he sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph, to get directions to Goshen; and they came into the region of Goshen. 29And Joseph had his chariot ready, and went to Goshen to greet Israel, his father, and presented himself to him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while. 30And Israel said to Joseph, “Now I can die, since I have finally seen your face, and know that you are yet alive.” 31And Joseph told his brothers, and his father's household, “I will go and tell Pharaoh, ‘My brothers, and my father's family have come to me from the land of Canaan. 32These men are shepherds by trade, tending cattle; and they have brought their flocks and herds, and all that they have.’ 33And, when Pharaoh calls you in, and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’ 34You should answer, ‘Your servants’ trade has been about cattle from our youth until now, both we, and also our fathers.’ Then he will let you stay in the region of Goshen; for all shepherds are despised by the Egyptians.”
