This is the word of the LORD, your Maker,

Yahweh, Israel’s covenant God, speaks as the eternal Creator who brought all things into being and called Israel into existence as His people. The One who made heaven and earth possesses full authority over the nation and remains personally involved in preserving it.

who formed you from the womb

Israel’s origin and calling were not accidental. Like a potter shaping clay, God formed the descendants of Jacob according to His covenant purpose, beginning with His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His care reaches back to the nation’s earliest beginnings and continues through every generation.

and who will help you:

The God who formed Israel also sustains and defends Israel. His promised help rests on His faithfulness, not on Israel’s strength or merit. Though the nation had known judgment because of sin, Yahweh had not abandoned His covenant people.

“Do not be afraid, O Jacob My servant,

Jacob recalls Israel’s patriarchal origin and God’s enduring promises to the fathers. Calling Israel His servant identifies the nation as belonging to Yahweh and appointed to bear witness to Him among the nations. Fear is answered by the presence and help of the God who remains with His people.

Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

Jeshurun, meaning “upright one,” presents Israel according to God’s intended calling rather than its frequent failure. God chose Israel in grace to be His treasured possession and to serve His redemptive purpose in the world. His election reveals His sovereign love and assures His people that His purposes will stand.

Persons / Places / Events
1. The LORD (Yahweh)
