Leviticus 7:34
I have taken from the sons of Israel the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons as a permanent portion from the sons of Israel.'"
I have taken from the sons of Israel

God Himself appointed these portions from the sacrifices brought by His covenant people. Israel’s worship was never detached from daily life; the offerings expressed gratitude, cleansing, fellowship, and obedience before the Lord who had redeemed them.

Num 18:19 All the holy offerings that the Israelites present…
Num 18:8 Then the LORD said to Aaron, “Behold, I have put you…

the breast of the wave offering

The breast was presented before the Lord in acknowledgment that every gift belonged first to Him. After its consecration, it became food for the priestly household, joining the service of the altar with God’s provision for those who served there.

Exo 29:26 Take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s ordination…
Lev 9:21 but he waved the breasts and the right thigh…

and the thigh of the contribution of their peace offerings,

Peace offerings celebrated restored fellowship with God and often included a shared meal of worshipers, priests, and sacrifice. The thigh was set apart as a sacred contribution, reminding Israel that communion with God involved honoring His appointed servants.

Num 18:18 And their meat belongs to you, just as the breast…
Exo 29:27 Consecrate for Aaron and his sons the breast of the wave…

and I have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons

Aaron and his descendants received these portions by God’s command, not by personal claim. Their livelihood came from the worship of Israel because their lives were devoted to ministry at the tabernacle on behalf of the people.

Num 18:11 And this is yours as well: the offering of their gifts…
Deu 18:1-4 The Levitical priests shall have no portion…

as a permanent portion from the sons of Israel.’”

The enduring provision preserved the priesthood throughout Israel’s generations and upheld the worship God had established. God’s care for His servants also taught Israel that those who labor in sacred ministry are to be supported by the people they serve.

Exo 29:28 This will belong to Aaron and his sons as a regular portion…
Lev 10:15 They are to bring the thigh of the contribution…

Leviticus
The emphasis which modern criticism has very properly laid on the prophetic books and the prophetic element generally in the Old Testament, has had the effect of somewhat diverting popular attention from the priestly contributions to the literature and religion of Israel. From this neglect Leviticus has suffered most. Yet for many reasons it is worthy of close attention; it is the deliberate expression of the priestly mind of Israel at its best, and it thus forms a welcome foil to the unattractive
