A friend loves at all times,

True friendship remains faithful through prosperity, failure, sorrow, and danger. David and Jonathan displayed such loyalty when Jonathan protected David at great personal cost (1 Samuel 18–20). Such steadfast love reflects the Lord’s own covenant faithfulness, whose mercies do not fail but are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23). Jesus revealed the highest measure of love by laying down His life for His friends (John 15:13).

Family members are especially called to provide help when hardship exposes human need. Joseph’s brothers failed grievously at first, yet God brought reconciliation and preservation through Joseph during the famine (Genesis 45:4–8). The proverb also points beyond natural family to the faithful support God provides among His people. Christ is not ashamed to call believers His brothers, having entered human suffering to deliver and help those who trust Him (Hebrews 2:11–18).
