In biblical times, the term "blower" is not explicitly mentioned in the Scriptures. However, the concept of blowing, particularly in relation to wind and breath, holds significant theological and symbolic meaning throughout the Bible. The act of blowing is often associated with the movement of the Spirit of God, the breath of life, and the power of divine intervention.

Wind and Spirit

The Hebrew word "ruach" and the Greek word "pneuma" are both translated as "spirit," "wind," or "breath" in the Bible. This dual meaning underscores the connection between the physical act of blowing and the spiritual presence of God. In Genesis 1:2 , it is written, "Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters." Here, the Spirit of God is depicted as a dynamic force, akin to a mighty wind, moving over the waters at the creation of the world.

Breath of Life

The act of blowing is also intimately connected with the impartation of life. In Genesis 2:7 , "Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being." This passage highlights the divine act of God blowing life into humanity, signifying the unique relationship between God and human beings, who are made in His image.

Divine Intervention and Judgment

Blowing is also used metaphorically to describe God's intervention in human affairs, often in the context of judgment or deliverance. In Exodus 15:10 , during the song of Moses, it is proclaimed, "But You blew with Your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters." This verse recounts the miraculous deliverance of the Israelites from the Egyptians, where God's breath, or wind, is depicted as a powerful force that brings about salvation for His people and judgment upon their enemies.

Prophetic Imagery

The prophets frequently use the imagery of blowing to convey messages of both hope and warning. In Ezekiel 37:9 , the prophet is commanded, "Then He said to me, 'Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and tell the breath that this is what the Lord GOD says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, so that they may live!'" This vision of the valley of dry bones symbolizes the restoration of Israel, with the breath of God bringing life and renewal to what was once dead.

New Testament Fulfillment

In the New Testament, the act of blowing is fulfilled in the coming of the Holy Spirit. In John 20:22 , after His resurrection, Jesus breathes on His disciples and says, "Receive the Holy Spirit." This act signifies the impartation of the Holy Spirit, empowering the disciples for their mission and continuing the theme of divine breath as a source of life and power.

Throughout the Bible, the concept of blowing, whether as wind or breath, serves as a profound symbol of God's creative power, life-giving presence, and sovereign authority over creation.
