Preparation for holiness is the process by which believers ready themselves to live a life set apart for God, characterized by purity, righteousness, and devotion. Holiness is a central theme in the Bible, reflecting God's nature and His call for His people to be distinct from the world. The pursuit of holiness is both a divine command and a response to God's grace, requiring intentional effort and reliance on the Holy Spirit.

Biblical Foundation
The call to holiness is rooted in the character of God. Leviticus 11:44-45 states, "For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, because I am holy." This command is reiterated in the New Testament, where 1 Peter 1:15-16 echoes, "But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"

Preparation through Sanctification
Sanctification is the process by which believers are made holy through the work of the Holy Spirit. It involves both a positional aspect, where believers are declared holy through faith in Christ, and a progressive aspect, where they grow in holiness throughout their lives. Hebrews 10:24-25 exhorts, "And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Moral and Ethical Conduct
Preparation for holiness involves a commitment to moral and ethical conduct. Romans 12:1-2 urges believers, "Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

Separation from Sin
A key aspect of preparing for holiness is separation from sin and worldly influences. 2 Corinthians 6:17 commands, "Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." This separation is not isolation but a distinctiveness in character and conduct.

Ultimately, preparation for holiness is dependent on the Holy Spirit's work in the believer's life. Galatians 5:16 instructs, "So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."
