Injustice, defined as the lack of fairness or justice, is a concept that is consistently addressed throughout the Bible. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, Scripture reveals that God does not approve of injustice and calls His people to act justly and uphold righteousness.

Old Testament Insights

The Old Testament is replete with admonitions against injustice. In the book of Deuteronomy, God commands His people to pursue justice: "Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you" (Deuteronomy 16:20). This directive underscores the importance of justice as a foundational principle for the community of Israel.

The prophets frequently spoke against the injustices of their time. Isaiah, for instance, conveys God's displeasure with those who enact unjust laws: "Woe to those who enact unjust statutes and issue oppressive decrees" (Isaiah 10:1). Similarly, the prophet Micah highlights what the Lord requires of His people: "He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8).

New Testament Teachings

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ embodies and teaches the principles of justice and righteousness. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus emphasizes the importance of seeking God's kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). This call to righteousness inherently includes a rejection of injustice.

The apostle Paul also addresses the issue of injustice in his epistles. In Romans, he writes, "For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Then do what is right, and you will have his approval" (Romans 13:3). This passage suggests that God’s design for authority is to promote justice and discourage wrongdoing.

God's Character and Justice

God's character is inherently just, and He is described as a righteous judge. Psalm 89:14 declares, "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; loving devotion and truth go before You" . This verse highlights that justice is not merely an attribute of God but a fundamental aspect of His divine nature.

The Bible also assures believers that God will ultimately bring about perfect justice. In Revelation, the final judgment is depicted as a time when God will right all wrongs: "And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened... The dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books" (Revelation 20:12).

Call to Action

Believers are called to reflect God's justice in their own lives. Proverbs 31:8-9 exhorts, "Open your mouth for those with no voice, for the justice of all the dispossessed. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the poor and needy" . This call to action is a reminder that God's people are to be advocates for justice, mirroring His heart for the oppressed and marginalized.

In summary, the Bible consistently reveals that God does not approve of injustice. His people are called to pursue justice, reflecting His righteous character in a world that often falls short of His standards.
