Paul in Macedonia and Greece

1And, after the tumult ceased, Paul, having sent for the disciples, and exhorted them, taking leave of them, departed to go into Macedonia. 2And, having gone through those parts and exhorted them with many words, he came into Greece; 3and, having spent three months there, a plot being laid for him by the Jews, as he was about to sail into Syria, he determined to return through Macedonia. 4And there accompanied him Sopater, son of Pyrrhus, a Beraean; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Galas of Derbe, and, Timothy; and, of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 5And these, having gone before, were waiting for us at Troas; 6and we sailed away from Philippi, after the days of unleavened bread, and came to them to Troas in five days; where we tarried seven days.

Eutychus Revived at Troas

7And on the first day of the sabbaths, we having come together to break bread, Paul was discoursing to them (being about to depart on the morrow), and continued the discourse until midnight. 8And there were many lamps in the upper room, where we were assembled. 9And a certain young man, Eutychus by name, seated in a window, being borne down with deep sleep, as Paul was long discoursing, overpowered by the sleep, fell from the third story, and was taken up dead. 10And Paul, going down, fell upon him; and, embracing him, said, "Make no tumult! for his soul is in him." 11And, having gone up, and broken bread, and eaten, and for a long time having conversed with them, even till break of day, so he departed. 12And they brought the boy alive, and were comforted in no ordinary measure.

From Troas to Miletus

13And we, going before to the ship, set sail for Assos, there intending to take up Paul; for so he had arranged, intending himself to go on foot. 14And, when he met us at Assos, taking him up, we came to Mytilene. 15And sailing thence, we came the following day over against Chios; and the next day we touched at Samos; and, on the following day, we came to Miletus. 16For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to be in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.

Paul’s Farewell to the Ephesians

17And, having sent from Miletus to Ephesus, he called for the elders of the assembly. 18And, when they came to him, he said to them, "Ye yourselves know from the first day on which I came into Asia, after what manner I was with you all the time; 19serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and with trials which befell me in the plottings of the Jews; 20how I shrank not from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and from teaching you publicly, and from house to house, 21fully testifying, both to Jews and Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus. 22And, now, behold, I, bound by the Spirit, am going to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there; 23except that the Holy Spirit testifieth to me in every city, saying that bonds and tribulations await me. 24But I make not my soul of any value as dear to myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to fully testify the Gospel of the grace of God.

25And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I went about preaching the Kingdom, will see my face no more. 26Wherefore, I testify to you this day, that I am clean from the blood of all men; 27for I shrank not from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. 28Take heed to yourselves, and to all the flock in which the Holy Spirit appointed you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of God, which He purchased with His own blood. 29I know that, after my departure, grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock; 30and from among yourselves will men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31Wherefore, watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I ceased not to admonish every one with tears. 32"And now I commend you to God, and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all the sanctified. 33I coveted no one's silver, or gold, or apparel. 34Ye yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities, and to those who were with me. 35In all things I showed you that, thus laboring, ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

36And, having said these things, bowing his knees, he prayed with them all. 37And great weeping arose from all; and, falling upon Paul's neck, they kept kissing him; 38being distressed especially on account of the word which he had spoken, that they were to see his face no more. And they were escorting him to the ship.
