1Now Joseph was brought down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an official of Pharaoh, the chief of the executioners, an Egyptian man, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. 2And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hands. 4And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him. And he made him overseer over his house, and he put him in charge of all he had. 5And it came to pass from the time he had made him overseer in his house, and over all he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. 6And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand--and did not concern himself with anything that he had except the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome in form and good looking in appearance. 7And after these things it came to pass that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph. And she said, "Lie with me." 8But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Behold, my master does not know what is in the house with me, and he has given all that he has into my hand. 9There is none greater in this house than I. Neither has he kept back anything from me except you because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" 10And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie with her, or to be with her. 11And it came to pass on a certain day that he came into the house to do his work. And none of the men of the house were inside. 12And she caught him by his robe, saying, "Lie with me." And he left his robe in her hand and fled, and got out of the house. 13And when she saw that he had left his robe in her hand and had fled, 14She called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, "See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice. 15And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his robe with me and fled and got out." 16And she laid up his robe beside her until his lord came home. 17And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, "The Hebrew servant which you have brought to us came in to me to mock me. 18And as I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his robe with me and ran out." 19And when his master heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him, saying, "Your servant did this to me," his wrath was kindled. 20And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound. And he was there in the prison. 21But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22And the keeper of the prison gave all the prisoners in the prison into Joseph's hand. And whatever they did there, was his doing. 23The keeper of the prison did not concern himself with anything under his hand because the LORD was with Joseph, and whatever he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
